I'll second that. I use a £200+ Gortex when I'm hillwalking but they just don't keep you as dry as a £20 camouflage poncho. You get so much more with a poncho - I have used mine as a tent, an extension to my brolly, a sunshade, a weighing sling and a makeshift rucksack - all you need are a few pegs and some bungee cord. When you sit down they cover you from head to foot and you can secure it over your sleeping bag to make a waterproof cover.

 

What kind of cho? - pon-cho!
