A great catch, it's a shame the photo is not in colour as I bet it was a fine looking fish.

PS. What happened to your head?

And just when did you catch the fish?

Undoubtedly a magnificent fish but was it really necessary to chap it on the head? Wild Brown Trout of that size are rare creatures and should be preserved.

The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable, a perpetual series of occasions for hope. ~John Buchan

Fundamentally fishing is a philosophy. A philosophy of earth, and growth, and quiet places. In it there is a rule of life, a recognition of permanences. It makes you notice the little things of nature, wherever you may be. ~Bernard Venables

Smoking being a good method of preservation fo brown trout.

The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.

Nice fish, Cannibal S - is that what influenced your choice of forum name ?

It is quite amazing how, if one catches a decent fish, one gets gratuitous advice on,

The method you "should" have used

Whether you should or should not have eaten it

and whether it is a meritorious catch anyway.

Over the years you will have to learn to shrug such advice aside and always do what you think right - as in this case

Yes , it was a great taste

Did it make you feel better to write that comment? Perhaps for you the right thing to do would have been return it, however some of us are happy to combine our fishing and our cooking, it's a very honest way to get ones dinner, and involves less suffering than the production of a bacon 'buttie' which is talked of with positive enthusiasm often in these pages.
