National Angling & Fisheries Organisations to Speak with One Voice

DCB, obviously Paul has angered you, but he is not being anonymous, and, I believe, there is a sublime wisdom in there, somewhere hidden between the lines.

I agree that the SAA, for example, is doing sterling work. But, and its been said before, joe public needs to be told. Dear old Jardine comes in, sometimes months after the event, and tries to take the glory. But its only because the rightful owners of that glory have not blown their own trumpets.

But as for Paul's latest but one posting, not impressed.

As Cranfield has said, retrieve your dummies.

Paul, we are lucky to have the likes of DCB fighting our corner.

Time, I think, to leave you fellas.

I am a member, by the way, of lots (well, a number) of deserving angling orgs, under a different name (I value my privacy). Best that I stay that way, now, still, obviously. Maybe meet a few of you (as I do) anonymously, in the spirit of the sport and under our appalling British weather, on the riverbank. Tightlines to you all. Don't let the Predators get you.

"What did you expect to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window? Sydney Opera House perhaps? The Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically...?"

DCB:

A personal reply to Paul Boote

This personal reply to Paul is as rare as rocking horse doo doos. So don't expect a repeat or answer.

Professioalism - is a state of mind - you don't have it or not. If you don't understand the premise, don't presume

Bought - Do you mean, paid for to represent a subjective point of view? No! My, and other's point of view is:

For the good of ALL angling. At no charge.

Craven - Don't hide behind the anonimity of AN for this ill-mannered, rude, discourteous and cowardly insult.

My SAA team and I are more brave and courageous for the protection and promotion of our sport than you could ever imagine.

Until you join SAA or similar and commit - don't play stupid, peurile word- games

In full awareness that within an open thread, you make a personal reply to someone - hardly a smart act - unless you are courting outside responses or are looking to court hostile replies.

Here goes...

I am making the assumption that Paul Boote is using his real name, and as this is a public forum can't be said to be hiding behind the 'anonimity (sic) of Anglers' Net as you put it. You on the other hand, use 3 initials. If you do represent the SAA as you claim - and we have to take your word for that as you post under a pseudonym it would seem, I'd hardly call your reply 'professional' (indeed, you either have it or you don't...reader, draw your own conclusion). Certainly, based upon your reply, it'd be a cold day in hell before I could support an organisation that would tolerate one of its officers making an outburst such as yours. For a start, you say that you want to represent 'For the good of ALL angling. At no charge.' Yet you charge a membership fee. A slight dichotomy, here. This isn't a criticism of the SAA in general, just one of it's alleged officers choosing to remain anonymous.

SAA ... Specialist Anglers' Alliance. I note the word SPECIALIST. The name alone alienates a fair number of anglers and therefore suggests a factional interest. Factional - hardly suggestive of unity, is it? I mentioned, in a reply on this thread that in the near 5 years I have been posting on this site, there have been numerous cases of various factional interests squaring up to each other - if what goes on on this site is angling in microcosm, it is a forlorn hope that angling will ever be able to put vested interests aside to a common cause. I truly hope I'm wrong.

Bought - As for paying for proper representation to get a message across, given your reply to Paul Boote, I'd say that if anglers' representation was left to you, paying for professional PR and media representation would be money well spent.

I fully accept your strictures about playing 'stupid, puerile word- games (sic)' - Given the quality of your reply to Paul Boote, I'd say he was very accurate in his comment - and that he is hardly guilty of the charges laid by you. As I said, if the SAA officers and members tolerate outbursts such as yours, it has a house of its own to put in some order.

In it's favour, the SAA has a number of officers whose names I recognise and one that I have met, and another I have privately corresponded with. It's Code of Conduct booklet is a really good tool. I am impressed by the roll-call, less so that I cannot find 'DCB' as a listed officer.

Oooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh dear! Thought everyone knew who DCB is! D is for David, C is for Carp but I doubt that that is applicable, B is for Bird, am I right so far?

Come on fellas, this is supposed to be unity in the making, isn't it?

By the way Alan, neither of my copies of the Code of Conduct have a list of SAA officers. Perhaps DCB was not on the SAA committee when it was drawn up.

P.S. DCB & Brian Clough have several similarities, including ability!

Peter, I was simply saying that it is a disgrace that someone claims to represent an organisation and claims kudos for good work on behalf of anglers - then makes a totally unprofessional attack on someone whilst using the spineless tactic of a pseudonym.

The rest of the post had me rolling about laughing, though.

Call me unobservant, but I suspect you are a predator fisherman Peter, or should that be a 'failed carp angler?' :D:D:D:D

Me, a failed carp angler? Perhaps, I've had no great success with the wee beasties but that is down to lack of interest and a rejection of the carp industry. But my carp activities came long after my predator ones. Strange comment Alan

It was a gentle leg pull, written after I should have gone to bed!

I made the comment on the basis of your gentle mickey taking of the known carp anglers on this site, Peter. No abuse or offence was intended!

I guessed that it was leg pull. Went straight over my head, left me bit puzzled though. Never even considered it as being abusive or offensive.
