Who's out on boxing day?

No plans to fish over Christmas. I'm rather looking forward to a short no fishing break. Currently siting behind 3 silent dead bait rods. Still undecided about new year plans, whether to plug on with the rather disappointing attempt at a lea Zander or whether to give it up as a bad idea and go chub bing.

I started pre baiting today, went to a place that I can manage to walk to only a few yards from the car, In wnt some sardies that had been frozen 'squashy' a few sprats, some mackerel tails that had been thawed and re fozen lots, the head spine and attached tail of a couple of silver (sea type) bream and a few stringy dried out bits of lamprey. Oh it was cold and I didn't manage to chuck em as far as I would have liked into a headwind. (yes I throw like a girl).

I tool my new early xmas present to me too, an 8 1/2' Savage gear Bushwhacker lure rod, had a few cast with lures, and you know all the time thinkin' am I a 'good' (pike) angler being out in the winter, or a 'crap' one because I didnt catch anything, and nor was I carrying a mat if I had. Is the fact that it was steadily raining and the shore grassy good enough mitigation? finally unable to concentrate due to the images of good and crap flooding my conciousness, I began to have quite an identity crisis and so packed up and drove home.

I enjoyed using the rod, lightweight yet stiff as a poker for twitchin those lures come the summer. ;)

Good luck Mark, I have changed my mind and will be out for a few hours with the lures but not to confident of catching.

Good on you mate. Not out Boxing Day but I might get out before the new year sometime if I get my 'kin bathroom finished!

For 2012, I plan to get afloat a lot more and really explore the broads with my lures on my inflatable kayak. Still really enthusiastic about lure fishing and just can't get excited about baitfishing, even though it may well be the better option on the day.

Luck to everyone who is venturing forth on Boxing Day, think of me having to cope with the family AND staying sober as I'm designated driver...

Me!

Bit of an annual tradition with me, since a boy,( never have really grown up). I was wonderimng who else plans on a session on Boxing day. I am planning a day on the Bure at Woodbastwick, Norfolk. Fished great in the summer, before the boats come out. Now the boats are not relevant, I am keen to see how it fishes. As the water has a 2 rod, (in water), limit, My aproach will be to have 2 small feeders out & a deadbait rod set up to change to. Bait will be ;- mixed maggs, worms, bread & meat. With 2 bags of groundbait. not that I expect to use it all. Weather forecast is 10'C, dry with a wind from behind me, so should be just right & I hope the rise in tempreture brings them on feeding again.

I also have this crazy idea to have a hook both above & below the feeder to start. This I hope, with different baits on, will half the time & casts needed to find the right one. Any comments please !!!

2012 Plans

Well plans or dreams, I can't tell.

1) Well it is my 50th in May, so first is a 9 day, birthday trip to Ireland.

2) Visit as many waters as possible. Possible as a 2 or 3 part 'Grand Tour'.

3) Replace ALL my tackle, bit by bit.

4) To actually make it to 'Tackle Fest' at Peterborough. At last..

5) Learn new tactics

So that makes 2 questions to keep you thinking:- Boxing day & 2012 plans, I await your comments & replies.

Have you checked regional/local bye laws to check you can fish two hooks?

I am fairly (but not 100%) certain that you may be breaking a law in the Eastern region.

good luck with your session - I am looking to have a dangle on 28th and then 1st Jan

As usual plans are made then shattered. Bloody forgot my phone bill, so I am stuck at home instead of out on Monday. Hope the rest of you have a good day. Now fingers crossed for Thursday, same venue.

RUDD I will check regulations & report back. Must say it does seem unfair if fly fishermen can use 2 & coarse can't. We will see....Still thanks for pointing it out..
