argyll:

...We left shortly after and I've never returned.

Don't blame you, mate, sounds dreadful.

Then again, have you ever awoken just before first light at Wingham, to see a real carp lake, and the myriad of wonderful sights, sounds, thrills and promises it contains, slowly, gloriously, tantalisingly unveiled before your eyes?

The experience you describe could only bring dismay, whereas the Wingham's of this world produce goosebumps, unstoppable smiles and pure gratitude that I belong to such a fantastic pastime.

There's more than one version of carp-fishing and I've found mine as others have found theirs. I only hope everyone enjoys theirs as much as I do mine.

All the best.

And on the eighth day God created carp fishing...and he saw that it was pukka.

Well said Terry! There are more versions of carp fishing, thats a fact!

You say Peter M, that you are going Carp Fishing this weekend, so am I, but I'll bet my bottom dollar your style, venue and size of quarry, etc will be different to mine! Good luck to you in your quests! And I dare say Terry will be out too, though his style and mine may be a bit more similar.

The point is, we all have our aims and objectives within fishing, whatever form that may take; whether we achive our goals is down to how much time and dedication we apply to the cause. Some have been fishing for many many years, and some not so long. Therefore everyones targets are different, so how can anyone say that others' target's are wrong? We can't!

Just because I do not fish commercials, I cannot criticise those who do; in that same vein, I cannot criticise anyone who fishes a water that contains a record size fish - whatever the species!

All this talk of targetting specific fish just shows the ignorance of real carp fishing shown by some people.

I have made this point several times before on here, and to emphasise it again: The syndicate water I'm a member of contains several 30's, earlier this year it did its first 40! now just because i go along there regularly and I shall be there this weekend, doesn't mean that I am targetting the 40, or for that matter any of the 30's, it would just be nice to have something.

Just because Conningbrook is home to a praticular big carp, doen't mean to say that everyone is TARGETTING it! It is NOT the only resident of the lake!

Well fair play to whoever caught it. I presume a lot of time and effort went into catching it but............ I tend to agree with those who say that catching a carp that's already been out a few times isn't as momentous an occasion as some people would have us believe.

What about the anglers who catch it when it's lost a bit of weight and is under the record weight? Are they not as skillful as the guy who catches when it's put on a few pounds?

The best time to fish is when you have a chance.

Fair play to you. Once again i am sorry if i clumsly insulted anyone re carp fishing, my point was about the record carp (and Barbel) circus that i don't like rather than the anglers involved. Let us know how you get on this weekend. tight lines.

Steve, I would say that its the difference between setting out to recapture a particular fish who's habits must now be well known...and accidentally re-capturing a known fish.
its habits were so well known its taken 14 months for it to be caught.i cant see peoples point so u saying when a record is caught nobody should fish the water again incase they catch the fish again at a higher weight  and to catch it from a 30 acre lake is some feat if you ask me

hehe i'd like to see some of you lot attempt to catch two tone, and she didnt look overwieght to me....conningbrooks a little muddy hole in teh ground aint it....no it isnt is it!

lads just because its not your cup of tea you shouldnt criticise,i dont fish for carp, but i understand what drives the boys to stay out after em all the time, soemtimes fishing is about effort and time, not how good ya lastest bait or rig is.

until a huge unkonwn fish is caught, two tone is the biggest and if you ask me i think she looks mightly impressive. :D

I am not going to take away the Carp anglers joy at catching a RECORD FISH, overweight or not.

I just personally feel that they are losing out (a purely personal appraisal).

I am an ANGLER, I fish the waters to catch what takes my bait. I never know what I am going to catch next - a 3lb Roach or Rudd, a 3-4lb Perch, an 8lb Tench or what have you? It is the excitement of not knowing what is next, instead of sitting and knowing that if you catch a fish, it will be a large Carp.

I am no specialist - I decide what I want to catch and go out prepared to catch the said species. Whether I catch what I intended to catch or - usually - not doesn't over-worry me.

I simply admire the ability of guys that can catch fish from Conningbrook - simply, the fish hav eno need to take an angler's bait - there's more than ample natural food in that lake. Interestingly, when Terry Glebiowska and Lee Jackson caught Two-Tone, it was on a single grain of artificial maize.

This is a signature, there are many signatures like it but this one is mine
