Two Tone gets fatter

Peter Waller:

A good natured leg pull, a valid point about devalued records, differing preferances and we get accused of putting down our fellow anglers, oh dear!

You mind your baggy flannels don't get caught in the chain while you're back-peddling furiously, old-timer.

And on the eighth day God created carp fishing...and he saw that it was pukka.

No, for 'real' angling you need an electronic fish-finder to do your watercraft for you.

See your foot, Pete? You shot yourself in that, mate.

Dear Gerry,

Off topic but;

Rod Stewart AKA Python Lee Jackson prior to full blown and might I add, well deserved stardom, also sung in a little known group before Python Lee called Shotgun Express. Also in the group were Julie Driscol and Long John Baldry. Taken from memory of course which I should add is starting to get foggy with age.

Back on topic;

The targeting of "known" fish is the standard hallmark in specialist angling. Growth in ounces it seems are highly prized, growth in pounds more so. Not for me admittedly, but I do admire those anglers with the stamina for such mammoth expeditions.

I remember fishing the "little" known tidal Trent for barbel year’s back when Graham and I virtually had the place to ourselves. Absolutely magic sport as we landed double after double to around just under fourteen pounds. Eventually of course, we started to re-capture the doubles we had caught previously which just happened to coincide with the place getting targeted by others eager to catch these large barbel for themselves. Around that point Graham and myself were "offski" as we both saw no point in hanging around for those barbel to put on ounces or pounds. The Trent is one big river and life is just too short for me. Plus, there’s no bigger buzz than drawing a huge barbel in over a waiting net that you've never caught before. Well, never caught in those proportions anyway.

I like the adventure derived from fishing so tend to move around a lot still searching for that dream fish. Lost her a couple of times at the net but she and I have a date with fate.

And attending that appointment is what still keeps me awake at nights. Not to mention keeping the anglers fire inside me well and truly lit.

But overall, when all said and done, its going fishing that remains the addiction. Whatever we fish for or where, or in what manner of chosen style, matters little. We are all diciples of the bent rod.

Keep those wellies damp and enjoy.

Regards,

Lee.

Gents - my fishing (and catching if I manage) has to suit me. Your fishing has to suit you.

Where is it written that

- my fishing has to suit you

- you have any right to belittle my chosen tactics, venues, targets, etc.

- and vice versa on both the above

For the record, I name all the carp I catch. I name them all Fred. Since they are all commons they would be hard to tell apart and with large lakes and rivers, chances of a repeat are slim so Fred works for me. It makes my conversations with the fish prior to their release ever so much more personal and meaningful.

George Foreman, the boxer, names all his male offspring George. Do you think maybe he was a closet carp angler?

Note that the last two paragraphs are pretty silly but on this thread, they will not win any prizes for 'most silly'.

Divisions in angling? I have seen it!! By the Carpers themselves. Putting in 300lb of ground bait, spod, bivvie,Tv etc. Gets a run and catches an 8lb Tench, and what does he do? Swears at the Tench and TOSSES it back, muttering about what a waste of time????????
