Targets for 2012

I suppose this is a day for looking ahead to the coming year, so what are your targets this year?

I have just joined a local fishing club who hold matches every month on a mixture of lakes and rivers. I have only ever fished one match before in my life and I blanked. My target is to win a match this year.

I am surrounded by waters that hold big carp and catching a 40 or even 50 pounder probably wouldn't be too difficult. All I would have to do is pay my money and put the time in. However, just down the road is a river that is free to fish with my annual license and it contains large carp. Not quite as guaranteed as the carp ponds so my target is a 25lb river carp from the river Mayenne.

I have never caught a Silure (Wels catfish). I know they are to be found in the river Mayenne and also in the Sarthe about an hour south of me. The target is to catch one, size not important.

Lastly, this year I caught my first (and only) Sturgeon. Probably the best fight I have had on rod and line. I had another on briefly on the pole when Tench fishing. I would like to catch another one (or several :P )

Let's agree to respect each others views, no matter how wrong yours may be.

Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity

Not sure... I can feel a period of change coming on, but I'm not sure yet where it'll take me. Some big perch are getting under my skin as I now know where they are but can't catch them, so that could turn into a mini obsession. I have a stretch of river that needs a concerted effort for the chub, as I suspect there are a low number of really big ones there somewhere, but that needs a long run of good conditions otherwise it's Impossible!

Work is going to make the spring fishing very difficult, so I've pretty much written that off next year. I might have another go for a big bream, but am undecided so far. The thing I'm looking forward to most is more lure fishing for zander, and I'm getting increasingly interested in fishing for big roach in stillwaters, so I may make a start on that if the weather is right.

So many options, so little time!

And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music

Going to target a local bit of the river for Chub and Perch ,This whole big Roach thing has got me thinking as some of the NAA stillwaters are supposed to hold biggys and see no anglers in the winter .

What weather conditions would you look for Anderoo?? is it a case of waiting for weed to die back?? thinking of combining it with some Pike fishing in the margins Steve.

We are not putting it back it is a lump now put that curry down and go and get the scales

have I told you abouit the cruise control on my Volvo ,,,,,,,bla bla bla Barder rod has it come yet?? and don`t even start me on Chris Lythe :bleh::icecream:

I have set myself a tough year ahead. My Primary goals are to catch a few species I have never caught, including a couple of ornamentals.

1. Wells Catish

2. Grass Carp

3. Grayling

4. Golden Tench

5. Koi Carp

Also I have set myself a few secondary targets.

1. A river Dee Carp

2. A Pike Over 15lb

3. A Carp Over 25lb

4. A Tench Over 6lb

5. A Perch Over 3lb

6. Bream over 6lb

I have plenty of waters which hold these fish, so as long as I put the time in I should be fine. I think the hardest will be the 3lb+ Perch, 6lb+ Tench, and also catching a Golden Tench.

Carp should be easy, just bait and play the numbers game, should get one eventually and have loads of fun in the process.

Species Caught 2011: Mirror Carp, Barbel, Ide, Rudd, Roach, Bleak, Perch, Bream,

Species Caught 2010: Perch, Pike, Roach, Rudd, Bleak, Bream, Gudgeon, Ruffe, Ide, Tench, Mirror Carp, Common Carp, Barbel, Chub, F1, Crusian Carp, Goldfish
