  1. 1. When night fishing is it OK to turn in and sleep whilst baits are in the water?

    • Yes, the bite alarms will wake me up

    • No, I reel in when I want to sleep

do not try to make them understand you. That is because they are a breed apart and make no sense". J. Fenimore Cooper (1826) Last of the Mohicans

Good advice but despite that we will continue to try.

No my dear I think you and danny are the breed apart.

Ps why is it that some ex coppers and ex military have a huge chip on their shoulders and think they are the most dangerous, enlightened and frightening things out in the wilds.

People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

Good general advice, why is it posted here?

I totally agree, also coming from a military background I have heard all the excuses “I was just resting my eyes” “I just dozed off” and there all ****s sleeping while fishing has no place in fishing as it doesn’t in the military.

I’ve seen soldiers on operations in the Middle East (that were not suffering from sleep deprivation), in live ambushes (that am sure thought they knew their own bodies) fall asleep so don’t come that nonsense, if your fishing you’re awake.

I,d likes to set them so called light sleepers a challenge!! let them set put and fish as normal into the night at some point in the night Ill approach them and see how close I can get before they wake !! Am sure I’d see the same startled look on their face I’ve seen a hundred times before followed by I wasn’t asleep lol

How about you walk through one of their lines on the way and set off the alarm to make it a fiar comparison...

We are not in the war FFS. Camoflage isn't worn by anglers to sneak up on the enemy it's just to fit in with the flora and fauna. Who gives a toss what soldiers (proper soldiers) get up to ? This is a fishing forum not a HM forces forum !

The most apparent thing from this thread and to be honest most others is that Anglers like taking the moral high ground and look down their noses at their peers at any give opportunity.

Whether that be sleep v no sleep, match v specialist, commercial v natural, rivers v stillwaters it goes on ALL the time.

The one thing I can safely say is that Angling will NEVER get its act together and put up a united front when the practice is seriously challenged.

I don'tknow about policemen, for they are just civilians too. Soldiers can't afford to take the word of wafflers, they experience things which most others can only dream of, they don't get the chance to go off home to their mams (and later wives) after a tough day.

I don't consider myself to be 'frightening, nor dangerous' for I am surely neither, still recovering from my stroke I can barely walk and am as physically as weak as a kitten your just making things up as you go along to try ands sound clever. Thats not how to debate

Sportsman, in that old topic you may recall I actually felt more empathy with people who shoot than a lot of angling, even though I've never done it myself. In this case people are saying you can't or shouldn't fish and sleep at the same time in any circumstances, whereas anyone who has done it knows it's simply not true.

What makes you think I was referring to you?

Let's agree to respect each others views, no matter how wrong yours may be.

Danny, can you tell me why you are dressed as a tree holding a fish in a boat in your avator. According to E2 and yourself you must be playing soldiers  .
