A LAIRD who changed the course of the River Tay was fined £9000 by a sheriff yesterday.

I too looked before asking. Not much there, in the dictionary. I thought perhaps it was a title from Royal appointment or something like that.

Quite large stretches of the Tay have been altered/managed for almost 100 years. Almost always to improve the river bed for salmon anglers. Banks of gravel, large boulders/various timber structures etc allow wading access. Bosun chairs are quite common sights on many parts!
