It is surprising just how many fish you can sometimes catch from a small swim on a small river - makes you wonder what you were doing wrong on all the occasions when you struggle to catch one or two!

3 lb chub are good fish anywhere, and particularly so on a small river. Well done.

Sounds like a great little river/stream.

I fish a couple of similar streams in Hertfordshire and I much prefer fishing them than larger rivers.

It often surprises a lot of anglers how large the fish in some of these smaller streams/rivers actually grow.

Great report and a cracking catch for a couple of hours.

Sounds like a great little session. I love those fish a minute sessions that take you by surprise.

Have to say I agree with the small rivers thing. Being so used to the Ribble I find that fishing an intimate river is a lot of fun and can be far more productive than some may expect. It also throws up its own little challenges. I too have been surprised at the size of some of the fish in the small rivers up near me as at times they resemble nothing more than small brooks. The best thing by far though is the lack of other people that seem to fish them. I only started fishing them last year but I love it. Makes such a nice change to a big river.

7 chub were between 2lb 14oz and 3lb 2oz.....

I've never caught seven chub in a session let alone seven in that range, well done. Vagabond is quite right, sometimes we get pre-occupied with catching monsters and forget that a 3lb chub on float gear is a highly entertaining prospect.

It's never a 'six', let's put it back

Too right! On my favourite little tributary a 3lb chub is a monster, and in the fast water on light trotting gear they fight like demons. With appropriate tackle, all fish can get the old heart racing.

I haven't fished that little stream for ages now, it's been so low it doesn't feel right. I hope it fills up again at some point, I've had some wonderful days running a float down those shallow glides and little pools, hoping for plump dace and thuggish chub.

And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music

For me a 3lb+ chub on a light float rod still is a "monster" and I hope it allways is! :D

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!
