the perfect chub rod...

I have recently purchased hyperloop barbel rod, wich i love dearly but i intened to fish for some big chub this year.i will be fishing a river but it also has a canal like, appearance in parts so not too much flow to contedn with.the barbel rod i think will be to heavy for chub(it has a 1.75 tc)and the quiver top supplied is a little too stiff i believe,so what should i buy?should i go for a medium?or light feeder rod with mulitple push in style tips or a lighter barbel rod?any suggestions on makes and models or rods you have used/owned?i will be looking to spend up to £80-90.

I regularly use and love both an old model John Wilson Avon and a Shimano Technium Specialist Avon twin tips. Perfect for my Chub fishing. The JW rod can be had at bargain prices and the newer version, even at retail price, has to be good value for money.

I'd always say the John Wilson Avon/Quiver. Been a fan of these for years. The perfect chub tool i'd say. The new system version has a selection of quivertips, and the avon top can be used for trotting a float or drifting a surface bait into those chub hidey holes.

Got to agree with Paul, the JW avon is the perfect Chub rod, trotting with the "avon" tip or a feeder with the quiver tip, it's just about perfect.

The new version with the option of a 13 foot trotting rod and 3 different quivertips should make it even better, looking forward to the autumn to try mine out on the Chelmer!

well lads been looking, and yes the JW rod does look good 3 push in tips 11-13ft option,i was also looking at the hyperloop and nexave feeder range from shimano i like them aswell but they only come with two tips,as a genral rule of thumb what quivertips should i go for 1oz.2oz.3oz??they all vary depending wich rod you choose(light ,medium, heavy).i would love the anteres specialist but its too much money.

Baronizer,

I've landed carp to around 15lb on mine, as long as you aren't snag fishing, and know how to play a fish I don't see why you couldn't land a 20 on one.

however I think if I were setting out for big carp I'd use a rod with just a little more backbone than an avon though, I was tench fishing at the time :)

if you've already a barbel rod, i'd get a mediumish feeder rod, maybe with 1, 2 and maybe 3 oz tips. i have a shimano technium medium heavy with 1, 2 and 3 oz tips and its perfect for when my avon rod is a bit much
