I don't know why they bother with the Pike as the conditions do not seem to suit them. The Zander seem to do well and sustain a good stock. These injections of Jacks are pointless from a fish welfare or fishery managment point of view and also a business point of view. With out trying to seem elitest or up myself, I have yet to talk to any serious pred anglers at OBH who are interested in the Pike they are there for the Zander. My assumption having both predators appeals to extra customers just after a bite from anything.

I would have thought the best thing would be to let the Pike die out and if a few survive they might find there niche as top predator. At the moment I think the Zander weights average much higher then the Pike. I also think no one weighs Pike at Bury Hill as they all seem to weigh 8 to 12lb but the photos always look around 4 to 6lb which is the sort of average size for me with the odd 8 or 9lb fish.

The only thing though Dale that i have thought about is perhaps they are stocking the pike to be food for the Zander...Worth thinking about?

The Zeds wont be able to deal with pike of that size Dave.If they wanted to "feed" them they would be better off stocking more roach etc.

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

I don't personally think so hawk.

Zander love small shoal fish as you well know.

Its a financial decision based on wrong facts hoping to get more predator anglers whereas they might actually get less.

I agree, most of the pred anglers are waiting for those key windows of opportunity when the Zander may feed. The last thing they want is a Jack to pick up there bait at sunset.

FAS did the same thing at the River Valley pit in Yateley. There were no bait fish in there yet they persisted in stocking it with pike to make it into their main 'pike water'. I went once and caught a load of sorry looking pike on deadbaits, and chatted to a guy from the committee who said they'd be stocking more pike soon to replace the ones that had died. I thought it was all very sad and never went back.
