Yup. A tench on a carp rod would be more than a little boring.

A couple have been caught on maggots / waggler this week at a local lake near Ipswich but were not targeted - anglers just fishing for bites.

Ended the day with 5 Tench between 1 and 3lb (ish - didn't bother getting the scales out!) 4 on red maggot, the smallest one on a lob!

Also had a small perch small rudd and half a dozen or so small roach. Even caught some sun, not bad for the middle of February :)

Thanks for the replies, great to hear how/what people are catching.

I went piking today with a mate and his dad (managed a jack of about 4 out but overall quite slow going) and tomorrow i'm going to a club pond on my day off work, there's tench in there but also a fair few carp, i reckon i'll try corn on the leger next to lilies with hardly any feed for my best chance. But being only the 4th time i've been fishing this year (including today!!) it'll be nice just to see what i can catch.

Will report back if i get any tench but i have a sneaky feeling i'll be pestered by carp

As famous fisherman John Gierach once said "I used to like fishing because I thought it had some larger significance. Now I like fishing because it's the one thing I can think of that probably doesn't."
