Will the world be ending this August?

I was discussing this with Stephen Hawking the other day. He tried to explain his theories about how radiation could escape from micro black holes, saying "The tidal effect becomes so great near the surface that the particle pairs produced by quantum vacuum fluctuations may be broken, one particle falling into the black hole and the other being projected outwards."

"That's all very well," I replied "but I bet you can't jump over this stool." He conceded my argument and left in a huff.

Mini black holes will just fizzle and die? The scientists think the risk is too small to warrant serious thought.. Dark matter
IF mini black holes were created they would indeed evaporate as quickly as they were formed. Dark Matter exists, without question. We can't see it, because whatever it is does not interact with electromagnetic radiation, but we CAN see the effects of its gravity. Without it none of the galaxies including our own Milky Way could exist.

The answer to Newts question is, no.

I rather doubt that we're all going to strangled by a rogue string or swallowed by a black hole but at least it makes a change from the god squad saying that we're all going to burn in hell after being condemed by a god who loves us all.

BTW, when did Stephen have the "Huff" programmed into his voice synthesizer ? He didn't have it last time i spoke to him......

I think it's the first stage of a recent upgrade - to be followed by "Puff" and "Blow Your House Down".

I thought that if you wrapped yourself in brown paper and took shelter by lying in the gutter, next to the kerb, you'd be fine.

the "handbook" produced by the gov "protect and survive" said digging a trench ,lining it with plastic and lying in it and you would be fine or was it just saving time burying you when you found that it wouldn't protect you from anything hotter than an ice cube :D
