On the fly: Don't overlook carp

This is an area of our sport that, although people have done it for years, I reckon it will explode into life soon. Here's a short piece on fly-fishing for carp from Colorado. Overseas carp anglers have been keen on fly-fishing for them for a number of years:

This week will see me launching my float tube for the first time in 2012 and carp on the fly are the quarry :)

A 10lb carp on a carp rod is a mediocre capture, catch the same fish on a 5wt fly rod and you won't be able to stop smiling (once your arm stops aching ;))

This is something I would love to try before I get too old.

(You don't have to pay for the package, I am hoping to persuade a mate with a campervan to go down for a few days)

Let's agree to respect each others views, no matter how wrong yours may be.

Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity

Do it! That looks fun :)

I've never tried the float tube thing. Must give that a go one day.

  • 3 weeks later...

Just acquired a 6/7 weight rod for that very purpose. Never fly fished before, so this summer will be a bit of a voyage of discovery.

Not sure that the normal fly type knots are up to the job though, especially backing to fly line - the carp where I fish go to 20+!!!

Where's the 'ANY' key?
