price of comets

I have two ponds. One is 25 Gallons and the other is 2,750. The smaller one is now the property of my 4 year old son. After the annual cleaning of the pond (remove cars and bikes (models)) and anything that "fell" in the season before, we refilled it two week ago. Today we went to buy some fish . . only 4 1 - 1 1/2 inch. Usually we buy comets and at the end of the season drop them into the big pond and start again the following year. However, this year I see the price of comets has risen dramatically (about tripple) in comparison to other cold water fish (carp and goldfish) is there any reason ??

has importing tightened up on this particular strain ??

have the prices jumped anywhere else ??
