Spawning fish

UMMM... i think my fish are spawning. The koi and goldfish are spending all their time in the shallows around the lillys. They huddle up together in pairs under the leaves. Very romantic but what do i do??? If small fish hatch do i have to remove them till they get bigger?

I know little about this situation as it has never happened before.

regarding the fry either make a safe haven behind wire netting in a part of the pond with lots of plants and cover or remove them ,fry are a great foodsource even to their parents :)

Go along with Chesters advice, a heavily weeded area - which is probably where your fish spawned anyway - will ensure plenty of fry survival, wouldn't bother with the wire netting though they'll be safe enough without it.

One point to think about though, is that if you leave them in your pond the survivors that get through to Winter will be the fry most suited to survive in a natural environment, & that might not suit your needs as a fish keeper ie colour, bodyshape & fin sizes.

Best of luck though Koi, it's very satisfying when you have fish in your pond that were born & bred there.
