The anglers net regulars....

Dave H

Recommended Posts

It is close season for river anglers so there's a fair few who don't have a lot to report or type about at the moment...

Thats me for one. Plus having a new baby means I am not getting out so much at the moment. Hopefully will have some perch reports soon once I manage to get out on the canals with the ultralight lures. Aswell as that I intend to fish a private lake for the tench when time allows. No-one else fishes it so should be a chance for a real learning experience.

I rarely start topics because I already know everything.;)

Smart ass :P

Good reply though :D

I don't often start topics mainly because most of the answers I'm looking for about angling related things have already been answered on here. A lot of people don't use the "search forum" facility but I think it's invaluable.

I agree and I too have been guilty of that in the past. The thing is that although a lot of the same questions get asked , take for example the amount of very similar pole threads recently, if nothing got asked unless it was an original new topic I think we would have a very quiet forum :D Also the same question asked 6 months on from the last time can get very new responses as attitudes change or new evidence comes to light.

What do you class as a regular?

I have been posting on here for Ten years or so both starting and replying top threads.

The truth is that I dont get on here that often and dont have many questions to ask or ideas for threads - when I come on the site I generally lurk - much like many other members.

Its suprising how many lurkers there are - last year I posted a thread and took a pounding from several members I had never heard of.

Another factor is the lack of response to anything I have posted (oh its that tw@t again???) - it seems certain members can post about anything fishingwise and start a five page debate getting posts from who I would presume are the group of regulars you are refering to - then again these anglers fish or have fished together for years and form the backbone of this site, I have no problem with this - its the ways things are on any public forum.

Good point but I have not used search facitlity to often as I have found it takes forever trawling through threads to find the answer you are looking for - mainly due to many threads going way off course - its usually faster to open a fresh thread.

I think we need a witch hunt to uncover these regulars who seem to have taken over Angers Net.

Dave, name and shame them :D

EDIT: A bit like Rudd, I am unsure what do you class as a regular?

A dozen members probably only start threads or post on here. It's not unusual on forums but for the amount of members on here it is quite surprising.

I wondered what your thoughts were over this? :)

As a bit of an outsider, I've always thought this forum 'suffers' from not being at the top of any niche. If I want to know something about carp I'll go to Carp Forums or Cemex, Barbel will be BFW, match fishing will be MFS or MD, sea will be WSF, preds will Pikers Pit...you get the idea.

The more generalist nature of this forum dilutes the number of specialists on here that would have real-world experience of what someone wants answering.

Just as an example, if you want to know advance tips for improving corkball pop-ups, 20 lads who make them, some for a living, will read your question that day on say, Cemex.

The good thing about this forum though is there's some really friendly and experienced people on here who you won't feel embarassed to ask a question or post a comment to...not the case on some of the forums I mentioned, where belittling the less experienced is on the agenda.

Who were the members who you felt pounded you? I say look in your past and name and frame although Rudd although I wouldn’t bother mate because if they got personal then just take no notice of them,

**** again? You shouldn’t feel that way in fact it sounds like they were the *****. I certainly don't think that anyone is a **** on here if they post anything I just answer if I can or give opinion if asked if I don't know I won't. I think some get uncomfortable when they get no replies but I don't see that as embarrassing but I respect that some do so I guess nobody has noticed but if it gets to that stage I try to just give them a reply the best I can but I certainly don't think he is a **** in fact I have respect for those who post when they want to as if its information required then its admirable to put yourself up on the peddle stool especially when you think that most who don’t reply but just read could be getting valuable tips which could save a fish with a 100 yards of line trailing in its mouth. I think we forget maybe that our opinions are not just noted by those 6 or 7 that reply but 60 or 70 that don’t too so that question /opinion asked however tedious and ‘Done to death’ I think we are sometimes to be blamed of living in our own shell but I bet to a 100 odd reading it that it is not an old chestnut!

Many of my thread starters are not 'How' but your 'Opinions' as I like to hear possible new ideas I have not heard off. There might be 9/10 I have heard but that one could be worth a try and I think that way could un lock a PB so worth a try or even a day’s fishing that turns out to be great like never before. It could be the simplist of things that some might think how can he not know that' but perhaps his way is the long way round but its the only way he knows I especially find this in the Rivers. I learned of many experienced river fisherman 30 years back when really rivers where the norm. I think many great river fisherman tend to be the old school as they cut their teeth on them and I am always picking their Brains and making a nuisance of myself..LOL. I have noticed more since I have returned how the gap between the ages of river fisherman and lake fishermen bigger than ever almost certainly due to the carp scene. Also I have noticed that the fair weather fishermen are the younger brigade on the still waters while the more weather hardened in general are still the winter bream, Perch. Pike chub anglers on the rivers of which at the moment are certainly taking a lower profile in the off season on this forum on which you would expect..

I like the regulars on here every single one of them as a find a lot of experience but quite a variety of opinion. I tended to be in the mould of the Fens anglers as I have done much Zander fishing and I love talking tactics on them and pike too but i love all types too

Anyone who has met me fishing like the two Budgie boys and Steve burke will tell you I am full of questions and opinions I ask and I do tend to waffle on a bit (as in this post...LOL) . I like opinions, I like to learn, and because of that I can tend to come across as a no nothing but I can assure you that you are a million miles away. British record holder of the barbel i might add ( my 15 minutes of fame, well about a week actually ..LOL) :marinheiro:

To sum up I love the opinions on here and some I have already tried, I am learning a hell of a lot about Wingham my new club water but then even when i was 8 years old i walked along the river Mole annoying the old boys as a pescy kid asking for opinions on how to fish and wear and I am excited about meeting some of the members and I will pick their brains too if they let me but at the same time explore explore explore which i am doing little by little. I am waiting for winter so i can move around but i have hit a snag with my health so it might be too much. Damn metal plates !

I certainly do not think anyone is a **** on here that is 100% sure no beginner or experienced is as if i did i don’t deserve to be on here or a fisherman :)

I have noticed of late that there seems to be a plethora of threads started by new members including some really basic questions that have previously been answered time and time again. There doesn't seem to be the deeper discussions and idea sharing that I remember of old.

Regards, Clive
