at what point is using technology cheating

Sorry Dave too late.

the incorruptable has become corrupted.

I chatted with two old friends before xmas that were fishing a big res I was also fishing. They are predator anglers and were using a bait boat.

They were catching at distance over 100 yards and there is no way you could do that with a dead or livebait without the boat. I thought then what a good idea. It allows the presentation of delicate baits at distance.

It got me thinking about fishing big lobs for perch and bream at distance in these vast waters.

On such waters you will never interfer with anyone else so I see no problem.

John

John, sums it up nicely above. Bait boats really open up a whole new world of predator fishing with being able to fish soft baits at distance. I believe on waters like Coombe Abbey and Frisby Lakes it is now almost a standard fishing practice.

Oh yes.

I am undecided if it will be used for "cheating" or used proper like for pucka fishing :D

It will come in handy used in conjunction with a marker float for my pit fishing. A lot of my fishing is within the range of a smart cast and so will help with swim mapping for Tench, Carp and as I feel Bream can be caught close in for them as well.

I will be using it for Predator fishing, I think a smart cast will be very useful for quickly finding drop offs and features that might hold Zander and Pike.

I am hoping to do some cat fishing this year, well to be honest it's all I am really interested in at the moment and so the smart cast should help with finding deep water etc. I don't give a monkeys what any one else thinks about using one.

I don't think it's cheating as i agree if it can be used then it's not cheating but the thought of fishing the middle drain and sitting in my bivvy and getting to see a little plastic boat making it up river past my rods like the Trawler out of the film 'The storm' would...Well i don't know really ? I think i would throw a dead mackarel at it...LOL

You shouldn't think or care what others think i agree as i don't providing i do not interfere with others enjoyment as yours wouldn't in fact i would probably follow you in the early mist undercover... :camera:

good idea

i am interested at what point if at all does using hi tec equipment become cheating if it does become cheating?

smartcasts and fish finders if being used to find the features is it just quicker then marker float and so the same?

what about the bait boaters is it just again quicker and easier then casting and catypulting bait out and no different to those who put it out by hard work?

do you set your own level of what you will not use as too much unfare advantage against the fish or is all things techy fine with you?

i think using "technology " is only cheating until most people can afford it ,in the 1950's the fixed spool reel was still considered "cheating" ;)

yes very true :D but modern tackle lacks something maybe a certain romantic ideal i am not sure even what i mean but there is something noble about simple plain fishing if that makes any sense

i did not post the thread to have a go at any ones style of fishing it was out of interest but i did think some might push a case for the simple pleasures of basic fishing

this is a quote from a writer i like about how some might think about technology and goes well with your fixed spool quote

"I am an Electrolux representative, selling vacuum cleaners with the quality assurance of being 'made in Sweden'" This man didn't tell Dad to go away. In fact in the end he fell for the pitch. In this one day, Dad sold four vacuum cleaners in Rokycany, which was quite a feat for a newcomer, because people had held on to their brushes and brooms for hundreds of years and considered these vacuum cleaners, at two thousand crowns a pot, the work of the devil and pointless to boot."

I wonder if most people would consider using a smartphone to check the forecast and moving to the other end of the lake to get on the end of a new wind cheating...

When I was a nipper I used to fish with a bit of line wrapped around a twig and held in my hand and dangled it in the water from a bridge over a stream. Some did not consider this angling as I was not using a rod. The trout couldn't tell the difference ;) Edited by corydoras

The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.

You can now pay over £2000 for a twig and go pole fishing
