Hook-length Lines: Which do you USE & WHY?

Recommended Posts

Well here goes DG

For pole fishing :

Map carptek (various heavy)

Map matchtek (varoius)

Drennan (pole) rig line (various)

Middy lo viz 1.1lb

Carptek used for medium to heavy rigs.

Matchtek and Drennan used for light to medium rigs. Middy lo viz, very light 1.1lb winter hooklength.

All due to diameters and the fact that this is what my local tackle shop stock.

General angling :

Drennan double strenght (various)

Drennan hooklength (various)

Drennan dacron 8lb

Drennan sink braid 6lb

All reliable and thats what me local shop stocks.

Carping :

ESP Ghost (flurocarbon)(12lb)

Nash silkweed (braid)(12lb)

Kryston Snake bite (coated braid)(12lb)

Drennan dacron (braid) (8lb) in winter

Esp main line (12lb)

All reliable and yes, thats what me local store stocks. On the day I will chop and change my hooklengths until I get runs.

I also use Nash leadcore limpets which form part of the hooklength, with these I use 1 to 3 inch hooklengths.

I also have in my boxes :

Mustad long point ready tied wide gape (16 and 18)

Mustad long point ready tied maggot (20 to 14)

Drennan carbon ready tied (light sizes 20, 18, 16)

Drennan match carp ready tied(heavy 16 to 10)

Mustad match carp ready tied (16 and 14)

Middy ready tied match hair rigs (very heavy)

Middy ready tied match pellet hair rigs (very heavy)

As you can see I use a very big variety.

Although I have put them in classes I do on many occasions find them other uses.

EG: Map carptek pole line sometimes gets used for feeder fishing in the winter.

I dont have any favorites, I use whatever my local shop stocks as I dont think there is a great deal of difference between makes.

All of the above work for me so I dont have any reason to try any others but if my local shop stocked different ones I would buy them.

They are now starting to expand and I have noticed they now stock Suffix lines.

DG - tied up a few hooklengths with the stealth skin last night...it's good line mate, the skin comes off sooo easy, you can make all different flavours of rigs.

Once again, thanks for the advice!
