The pike are.

Trying to fish popped up lobs over bed of worm for perch and can get pike.

Might chance a lob tonight.

They have left me alone so far.

Nearly all from the NE end of the lake. When we have strong winds it's almost always so, but it's not always the same end in the same wind.

Certainly the shoal tench don't follow the wind, witness the fact that one Fish-In in a strong SW just about all the fish came from the NE end. However there were a lot of tench rolling at the other end, but none caught.

Sounds tough over there this weekend. It's strange that it was these conditions (cold, N wind, cloud) that produced plenty of tench last weekend. When it turned to SW winds and got warmer it switched off. Funny old lake...

And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music

Just got home - well, that was tough, I think we may have very narrowly missed out on the right weather. I knew I'd been given a belting swim, so when that first tench arrived on Saturday night I thought "here we go". It was looking really good, fish on the bank, lots of activity in the swim and then suddenly that was that. I was completely sheltered and couldn't feel the wind at all, but I'm told that it changed and they shut down. It was almost a relief to hear that everyone was finding it hard and it wasn't just me being crap!

Still, a bad weekend at Wingham still counts as a great weekend for me - half the attraction is the place itself, it really is a bit special. This should cure the ills of two nights on a camp bed:

Fishing seems to be my favorite form of loafing.

I know the joy of fishes in the river through my own joy, as I go walking along the same river.

What do you think if the float does not dip, try again I think.
