Me too, last year I was able to take the Friday off and visit my sister who lives closeby to Wingham. I've got to work tomorrow so it'll be a last minute pack and an early night when I get home...a 3am start is planned. I'm keen to fish as much of Saturday morning as I can, I only had three 'proper' bites last year each resulting in a hooked fish and they all came between 9 and 11am on each day, nothing in the afternoon and only liners during the night.

 

Could be totally different this time of course.

 

It's just as well, really, I don't feel prepared tonight. Too much still to pack.

The Wingham Fish-Ins always run like clockwork as we've learnt over the years what works and what doesn't. However we've got a lot of new guests this year who may not know the ropes. I'd ask everyone to please help us and yourself by noting the following important points:

 

1) Apart from syndicate members no guest is allowed to take gear to their swim before 7am on Saturday. We made that mistake once, but never again!

 

2) Please don't stand and chat on Saturday morning once your gear is loaded up on the taxis as we're very busy then and they'll almost certainly be someone waiting impatiently behind you.

 

3) Do start fishing asap. We've had fish-ins before when the conditions have been perfect and then deteriorated and catches have tailed off. The weather forecast for Saturday suggests that this might happen again this year.

 

4) The BBQ on Monday will be half an hour earlier at 1pm as Peggy has to be at a hospital appointment with her Mum. Last taxi back to your swim will now be at 3pm.

 

5) The bailiffs and I will be exhausted by the end of the event so please do ensure that you're off the site by 7pm on Monday (the last taxi is at 6pm so do be completely ready to load up by then).

 

6) There's no charge to fish although normally guest tickets are £20 per day and you've got 3 days. However please do contribute to the Bailiff's Box in the clubhouse. What many don't realise is that the bailiffs are unpaid, and they do a huge amount of work both before and during the Fish-In. In fact you wouldn't believe just how much! The Fish-In leaves them seriously out of pocket - so please do leave them more than just a nominal amount.

Took the day off work to sort everything bait and stuff out, been to a couple of fish shops and got more than enough for the weekend...... Suppose I might as well go lure fishing for a few hours as it's such a nice day. Hope everything preparations are going well :-).

Hi all

 

Trying to pack everything so that it will go in wingham taxi easily but my fishing wagon holds back up stock of various things.

 

If I was the far side of the lake for instance what sort of distance is it to carpark to refresh stocks.

 

Google sort of shows it but is carpark just where you enter the site.

Yep, the car park is at the entrance. It's a 20 minute walk to your swim, John. You're about as far as it gets from the car park, but in almost the quietest spot on the lake.
