John the Wingham Tench don't half go like steam trains once hooked and so you need a good strong hook and as there are certainly more big Tench then Bream I tend to tackle up with a big Tench in mind and so pick a much heavier hook then I would if I was only Bream fishing.

Thanks Dales exactly my thoughts more likely to get a tench than a bream.

Just to get some of you even more exited the Coarse Lake has just thrown up a 40-04 mirror. What's more it's a new 40 to boot!

More to follow when I've got full details.

You know what, I applied late for this year’s event fully expecting to get a 2012 ‘Dear John’. It would’ve made a 2013 place pretty certain so it was a bit of a strategic application.

I’ve just found last year’s swim map & allocation list and re-read my blog entry for the 2011 event, thinking back there were so many things I enjoyed about the weekend that I was daft not to put my name down for this year straight away. Obviously the fish but other aspects such as the coarse lake itself, the facilties, the BBQ, living in a bivvy, cooking the evening meal, meeting other AN’ers…all of that made it a wonderful occasion.

This year my fishing tactics will be the same, no reason to change so that’s sorted. I‘ll be a bit more ambitious with the evening cooking I think, sausages are good but you can only eat so many, then there’s the wine cellar to stock….decisions decisions.

You cannot imagine how much I'm looking forward to this.

It's never a 'six', let's put it back

Just seen these new method feeders in my local tackleshop

http://www.poingdestres.co.uk/5813/Drennan...ed-Feeders.html

Suitable for Wingham?? I'm not sure they'd hold as much feed as the ones where you mold the feed on by hand, but was interested as they promise more accurate casting . . . . .

Are they the same as the ones by Preston Innovations which come with a mould? If so they are my favourite feeder for bream fishing. Combined with a short hair they are great. The lead causes them to land bottom down everytime so you know your hookbait is sat on top and not buried by the feeder.

They look very similar to the ones Den Darkin used with great success at Wingham a couple of years ago.

They are similar but look a little bigger - largest one is 35g

I would certainly give them a go. I rate them very highly if you like the method feeder approach.

Very true Tony, Den,s were home made I believe and his concept was that they held the up or down slope of the gravel bars and therefore his bait and ground bait presentation stayed in the correct position, if I remember correctly, Den had a catch of around 20 Tench that year with some exciting large fish.

The only caveat to that is that Den,s feeders were I think at least 50 grams, they were big beast,s indeed.

Fishing seems to be my favorite form of loafing.

I know the joy of fishes in the river through my own joy, as I go walking along the same river.

What do you think if the float does not dip, try again I think.

I think I still have a few that Den gave me, I will bring them along for anyone to use; if I can find my coarse gear!
