Can I catch a tench on a hair-rigged twig?

I needn't have worried - I just caught a tench of about 6lb on my twigs, two hours after casting them out :) I think my initial suspicion was correct - what you have on the hair is immaterial, if location and baiting are right.

Maybe I should do an article for one of the mags on this new wonderbait, or maybe I should wait until expensive plastic 'twigz' are available in the shops and do it then... :D

I did! I'll be going home later today, I'll add them to this topic then. It was a belting run, it didn't 'stick' around

And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music

I've decided not to nick your Twigz idea.

My Carp Logz, however, will be on sale from Monday :D

Good idea! How about complimenting them with a selection of 'sapz' glugs?

Why doesn't this surprise me? After watching the tench hoovering up whole leaves on Catching The Implausible, it seems to me tench will hoover up everything.....but will that last?

It seems that at the beginning of the tench season, the tench will take pretty much anything with gay abondon but later on in the yesr, they seem to pick and poke and behave far more selectively, probably concentrating on smaller food items. I just wonder if the tench will continue this hoovering all and sundry behaviour later in the year.

Here's the hooklength before casting - exactly the same as I was using, except two small twigs in place of the fake casters:

And the fish:

As you can see, I was using a little bolt rig with a 1.5oz inline lead and short hooklength. The baited area was a light scattering of groundbait and mixed/crushed tiny particles. I hooked on a small PVA stocking of groundbait, micro pellet and casters before casting out. With that kind of baiting, it must be immaterial what's on the hair (if anything!), as the PVA stocking is one mouthful, and the rest of the baited area is basically attraction, there's not really anything to eat.

Next time I'll have to go the final step and take on Budgie's challenge of a bare hook...

EDIT: I just noticed there seems to be a bit of blood on the mat - I'm not sure what that is, I didn't notice it at the time. The fish was fine, before the tench police come knocking!
