Wingham Fish-In Catch Reports 2012

John, Wingham has that affect on a lot of people, so you're not alone. I well remember what it did to Paul (tincatinca), who came to a Fish-In and is now a member. Those who haven't been can't fully understand it. Once they have, many do. For them just being at Wingham is enough, catching its fish is but a bonus.

John mentioned that I'd posted before that we seemed to be kindred spirits. Once we met that seemed even more so. In fact, it seemed as if I'd known John for ages. Yet, although we have so much in common, everything was new and I could certainly learn a lot from John.

It's a shame you live so far away as I'd love to see what you could achieve at Wingham.

I would second that as well. If John cant get down here then it looks as if I will have to make the effort to get together with him for some Zedding on the Fens! Was really nice to meet you at last!

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

I agree with that. I have only been twice and have clocked up 1200 miles to be there in those two trips as my first trip made a big impression on me. There is something about waking up at wingham and hearing the wildlife and nothing else that makes you smile as you emerge from your bivvy. I can only hope I can continue to be there each year as new babies etc prevent me from being in a position to get a ticket at this stage in my life. I am sure that one day I will be tempted into applying though. Its hard to explain the Wingham thing. I think it is a combination of lovely setting, abundant wildlife, very friendly and helpful staff, awesome fish, clear water and lack of idiots with radios at full blast that make it so good. Its like the land that the modern carp scene forgot. I am glad there are still places like wingham in existence as I dont often fish stillwaters anymore as they have just been ruined by over population etc etc. That is a discussion for another thread though. I think Steve has done a fantastic job with Wingham and I commend and admire him for not bowing to the modern carp scene and filling it with F1's etc.

Thanks guys

Still got my wet eyes on but cannot get through life without meeting steve Budgie and Dales again.

How when and where I don't yet know but if Dales could join Budgie up the fens for a zander weekend then that would be a start. I know headless would be so good to meet for you both being a really nice guy and a good zander angler we could all have a great weekend.

And at the very latest the next wingham fish in will have my name down just incase its not too full.

Hopefully win the lottery between now and then.

kindest regards

John

Would love a Zed meet. It was nice to park the old Suzuki next to your fishing wagon again and have a catch up. It's one of the great things about these meets, you get to meet people who go on to be good friends. So pleased you made it down to Wingham.

Stephen

Thanks to Steve the bailiffs and Paul, (Tinca Tinca) my swim neighbour for a enjoyable weekend. I reckon the Top Bay should be renamed Jack Corner! I had the 'Perchiest' looking swim which threw up ten Jacks. Good fun on a light float rod though! Looking forward to it next year, fingers crossed I get a place!

Many thanks to Steve and all the baliffs and baliff's helpers for all the hard work in preparation for the Fish-In and for the invite of course.

Jo and I always look forward to visiting.

As for most, I didn't catch very much. I did catch my first Wingham Perch (see below) and a couple of pike in the 5 - 6lb bracket and a tiny pike.

One of the pike was hooked "on the drop" with a 3SSG bulk!

Here's the perch, all of 1lb 2oz
