BRUCE & WALKER

Lordy memories, my first ever proper rod and reel setup was a Seeley Blue Match Delux, and an Abu Cardinal 44X, it was a kind of a Green colour, it had rear drag and an amazing 6.2 to 1 retreive ratio, I remember checking it on Christmas morning over and over, it was a vast improvement over my Winfield 77 Spinfisher.

I have a Bruce and walker 13 foot matchrod and it the same one you have described Kenvis.

The onlt thing is the top section broke and i had to have a section put in to fix it.

As bish as mentioned they never do feel the same again as it as spoilt the action.

its still ok to fish with but doesent have that through action as good as before.

Its been in the loft for a few years now, i might get it out and sell it on Ebay.

A few years ago I bought a Bruce & Walker XLS 13 (brown with black whippings) for about 30 quid. Although it looks a bit numb compared to modern rods it is good to use. Of course, the only reel to use on such a rod is a Mitchell 300

I've said a few times on here that it is good to get back to ones' angling roots sometimes, and for that reason I occasionally use an old cane rod (my very first rod) that is somewhat older than my mumblemumble45mumblemumble years, usually with an Intrepid Prince Regent. I might get a few odd looks from others on the bank, but what the heck :)

Tight lines

PS, welcome to the forums Kenvis, I hope your stay will be a long and happy one :D

BUDGIE:

I was once told by a fella at Conoflex that all Terry Eustace blanks were made by them.

Many, but by no means all. I seem to remember Terry telling me that one of those I bought from him came from Sportex. Wherever they came from they made excellent rods, that were built to a very high standard.

Kenvis:

Hi I am new to the forum and from what I have seen its really good. What it is,is many years ago i had a 13' match rod called a Bruce and Walker Flyer, it was a brown rod with green whippings if i recall, with a picture of a Bream and a Roach at the butt end, does anyone remember this great rod.At the time Its competitors as i remember were the Shakespear match international, Seeley Blue Match delux and Hardy Matchmaker, which if I recall where very expensive compared to the £30.80 I paid for my B&W.If anyone has a picture of this rod or if someone could take a diggy picture of the rod I would be made up...thanks chaps, Davy.

Hi Kenvis, New myself but what fond memories,My wife purchased a flyer for me many moons ago and what a fantastic tool it was for everything from trotting the Norfolk Bure early mornings before the boats for the roach to chucking a waggler at the tench on southern lakes. ( search e-bay regularly you will find one eventually! )

i used blue matches mostly because they were available in the freemans catalogue ,i had a milbro enterprise which was very good but heavier ,the only B&W i ever owned was a stepped up carp rod but i sold it in hard times to afford taking out then girlfriend on good time trips
