To me living in the real world means that it doesn't matter what rules and regulations

you make it doesn't change things.

You sit there in your ivory tower trying to sound superior by saying The UN says you can't do that .Is it working ,no it's not.

will it ever work ,no it won't.

I do differentiate between abuse and discipline.

And whats this sounding right on BS.

It looks to me like your trying to pick a turd up by the clean end, I think I understand the statement you made about kids rights or lack of them I personaly (correct me if im wrong) think you where refering to the right of self determination at a young age

something that has a foot in both sides of the debate about belief,I would say that the most die hard childrens rights activist would agree with a person not wanting little Johny at nine being alowed to eat macdonalds every meal washed down with a tin of stella whilst watching a porno no matter how into the rights of the child they are,and how hard the kid might think he had a right to do it.

 

The rights that Emma refers to are the right to an education, not being forced to fight as a child soldier,basicly the right to be nurtured.

you used a very broad brush stroke in your statement about them not having any now your reaping the whirlwind

 

The UN is a toothless tiger in a lot of cases but not all a recent conviction in the hauge of the ex Libierion president was in no small way down to conventions past in the UN along with many not all peace keeping operations I bet the east timories are glad of the convention that paved the way for the kiwi and Aussie peace keeping operation.

 

I agree with your right to an opinion and I think Emma would as well trouble is we all have one maybe I way off the mark with my evaluation of what you posted but again its only my opinion.

fully understand where your coming from. In the real world, any god didn't help this kid, nor the likes of on paper rules and regs that ain't worth spit by both the u n and governments. Punishments are weak, excuses used with regards to why the perpetrator gets an easy ride compared to the victim as in this case, alledgedly.

My arguement is that the UN can make all the laws, recommendations, acts, name it what you will

in real time the abuse and the exploitation of kids will still go on.

 

Emma two, i'd prefer not to take the middle ground as you put it but i will agree to disagree

as your idea of rights and my idea of them differ so much.

At least my ideas are mine and not the UNs

Right, from the start (of this bit anyway), you come out with your belief that children have no rights. I imply that they do and back up my case with evidence, initially the International charter, and later ones which apply to my country and to your country.

You respond to that with a bit about how useless the United Nations is, you don’t provide any evidence to support your argument at all, other than a vague implication that bad things still happen to children.. You do go on to say that you live in the/a ‘real world’ with the implication that others (well me anyway) don’t. To top that you then go on to accuse me of being the one in an ‘ivory tower’ and on a high horse (quite melodramatic), well you take the biscuit (as the saying goes) for being hard necked and hypocritical, and you say that I'm the one trying to 'sound superior'!

 

You still haven’t come up with ant reasons to show that your world is more ‘real’ than the world of others is...I did think that you might jump at that chance?
