A day on the pond

After a long night last night I had a bit of a lie-in this morning. By the time i'd got some maggots it was lunchtime before I was ready to go fishing. I was umming and aahing whether to go to the canal or to the pond, the river is too clear and shallow so it was between the two. I couldn't be doing with kids running about which you can get down the canal as it is right by the playing fields, so decided on the pond. After grabbing a pasty and a drink I got down there to find I was the only one fishing it, which suited me fine.

I'm normally quite determined in my fishing; what I want to catch, how I want to catch it etc. But today I just thought to sit here with the quiet, watching the dragonfly buzz about and generally enjoy probably the last decent bit of good weather this year was absolutely fine.

I set up a basic running block end feeder rig with three maggots on the hook, flicked it out to the reeds to the left of me and tightened up the tip. Bites came quickly and I was soon getting roach and perch a chuck. Bites slowed up after a couple hours but I amused myself by trying to hit a rat with my catapult that kept popping his head out in the corner.

I only fished for a couple of hours but had a really nice afternoon and I think that it's going to be one of if not the last days of T-shirt weather we get this year.

Heres a few pictures of the pond and the estate I took today, by the way this is the pond they want to stock with F1 carp :nonono:

Tight lines to all those braving the rain tomorrow ;)

As famous fisherman John Gierach once said "I used to like fishing because I thought it had some larger significance. Now I like fishing because it's the one thing I can think of that probably doesn't."

Rain? Wots that then? We had it forecast all day today (as of The Beeb website around midnight). Bright sunshine all day from a cloudless sky, temperatures were in excess of 20 degrees until about half an hour ago too! :D

Lake looks nice, though not too many fish in them fields :D ... F1's would be sacreligious!
