All,

 

Not even sure I should venture this question in the 'coarse fishing section'. Nevertheless, not one to shy away from a thump about the head and neck on occasion I'll ask,

 

Can you gather bait fish with throw nets in the UK?

Phone - if "throw net" = cast net, I don't know either but the reasonable answer should be "yes".

 

I'm almost certain the answer is yes if sea fishing but not sure about coarse fishing in fresh water.

They are legal in Queensland, Northern Territory and Western Australia but not in the other states and only in the sea. Sadly, several people take advantage of the remoteness of lots of Australian waterways and use cast nets in some dams.

Good question phone, to be honest I don't know. I guess it will vary from one water to another based on who controls the fishing. I do think whether the rules allowed it or not you would attract some pretty dirty looks if you got one out and started to use it on a fresh water venue over here.

 

I do enjoy watching the art of a cast net being used and when done well it certainly sorts out bait requirements in a quick and efficent manner.

Nope cast nets are illegal in fresh water in the uk. suppose u could use em in the sea but recon it would be a complete waste of time.
