So after several months of manic work and very limited fishing I now have near 5 weeks off!

So what would you do with this time?

Believe me, I know how you feel, except I have a busy Christmas period coming up. I would fish for roach, chub and grayling, but given the current river conditions, I would opt for keeping an open mind, respond to the weather, and fish as many places as you can that are appropriate to the circumstances. And go to the pub, read books and tell us what you are doing.

Fishing for five weeks would become a real chore for me. I'm with Ken, go somewhere hot, sunny and with good restaurants for a couple for weeks then come back after we've dealt with the flooding and the rivers are all fining down nicely.

It's never a 'six', let's put it back

hence my pub suggestion...However, can we go fishing when the flooding has finished Mr Rusty? I need something to take my mind off single speed bicycles..... and work.

kappa,

If you're up for it (I don't know your personal circumstances or budget) the "best" is The Seychelles. B I G bucks can be dropped here.

I wouldn't consider the US as it is quite expensive also. Maybe PM Vagabond? He just returned from South America I believe. Faulklands (sp) are summer right now.

A great opportunity to pick a new bit of river and do some pioneering - while you wait for the water to go down, keep at those local Stillwater perch!

PS if you want to know of a bit of river that's begging to be explored for big perch let me know...we've fished a nearby bit with mixed fortunes in the past, but I really believe in this other bit ANYTHING could happen ;)

I'd have a bit of 'sport' going round with a landing net, and making sure some of the escapees from your local carp puddles didn't reach the river. A shot gun would be better, but I'd keep it legal.

John.

Angling is more than just catching fish, if it wasn't it would just be called 'catching'......... John

Ooh, another thought - as the waters recede, a well-timed trip to that marina you've mentioned before could well provide a whole season's worth of monster perch... :)

Due to my boss's van breaking down earlier in the year I ended up with about 4 days off and went fishing every day, I thought it would be great but actually was a bit tedious. Too much of a good thing and all that. I think I enjoy my fishing so much because i've worked all week. If I had 5 weeks off I think i'd only fish two or three times maximum a week, but I would take the opportunity to fish some new venues or existing venues but target something you normally don't aim to catch.

As famous fisherman John Gierach once said "I used to like fishing because I thought it had some larger significance. Now I like fishing because it's the one thing I can think of that probably doesn't."
