Mine got the same, and got mains gas at the same time, but that was long before I had been there, but I did see the huge billboards by the preipherique in Caen I remeber the ex at the time asking why we never saw them anywhere in the UK. Later we decided to dig about (she's a Chartered Accountant, a VAT specialist, they are good at digging) until we found out why.

I had read about that before, and knew about the condition of having a sign up to say where the money came from. I remember one of the British tabloids saying they were being "blackmailed"............ No sign = no money.

Just put a sign up! We did. :punk::punk:

You just tell him you want to stay in France if UK leaves.

The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.

I would still want a passport though...Is it a complicated process?

What is the criteria for becoming a French citizen?

  • One of your parents is French
  • You are married to a French citizen and have been for more than one year
  • You are married to a French citizen for under a year but have had a child together
  • You have lived in France for at least five years

As well as one of the above, you also have to:

  • be over 18 years of age
  • be able to show that you are of good character and morals
  • show proof that you do not have a serious criminal record (speeding fines and parking tickets do not count)
  • show you have integrated into French life – this means being able to pass an interview in French. You don't have to speak as well as a native French person but you will have to show that you can speak the language sufficiently well to function in France

In a nutshell the route for Sportsman is five years residency and learn the lingo, Sportswoman has to do the same.

You don't need a passport. A passport in France does not prove citizenship. You want a French ID Card, if you can get one you also need a Livre d'Famille (A Family Book). I'm not sure this is essential, but I know that it is an importand document. All births, deats, marriages in the family go in it. The Mayor will advise you on that, the main thing is the ID card.

The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.

Thanks. We have a family book too.It sounds the same. It is sufficient to be used as ID for children under 14 years old travelling on internal flights with their ID card carrying parents.

Ryanair have been refusing to allow children to board using this as proof of ID, despite it being National law.

They say that as an Irish airline they fly under Irish law..(even in Spain???)...They have just backed down as the fines/compensation to people refused boarding climbed to over 1 million euro.

Over 14 everyone has to have an ID card, but most do well before.

You cannot get a Spanish passport without ID card/nationality here.

In relevance to Corys still unanswered question about what would the response of car makers like Nissan be to an EU exit.........Their reaction would probably be the same as that of Ford, BMW and the city of London financial centre as shown in the link above.

Might as well ask one more time....Does Nigel Farage really know better??????

Well thats the flights booked to the little place in Torrevijca , a trip over to help the ailing spanish economy is nigh.

Having a few days with family in Villa Martin also, they poor spanish economy needs all the help it can muster.

Must admit the two spanish families that my family employ in the family properties are very happy.
