It's strange (or possibly not so strange) that the arrival of a seal in a town centre river has become a catalyst for the anti-angling brigade to steam in and turn it into a war againdt anglers. Most of the anglers that comment seem to be in favour of a natural solution. The Angling Trust seem incapable of keeping foot out of mouth in these situations. They did, to be fair, mention other solutions, but those have been largely ignored by the social media trolls. As usual we anglers get tarred with the same brush, especially by those members of the public that are ignorant of our hobby, and we don't have the time or inclination to answer our critics as we are too busy enjoying ouselves by the waterside. I just hope that the swell of opinion in Bewdley doesn't get physical

this is where real anglers make a point of distancing themselves from organisations who think they have control of all and thier opinion is sacrosanct and is acting in the name of all anglers. They ain't and they do need to have reality check. They have cocked up yet again.

New for 2016 TAT are the main instigators for the demise of the u k bass charter boat industry, where they went screaming off to parliament and for the first time assisting so called angling gurus set up bass take bans with the e u using rubbish exaggerated info collected by ices from anglers, they must be very proud.

Upgrade, the door has been closed with regards to anglers being linked to the e u superstate and the failed c f p. So TAT will no longer need to pay monies to the EAA anymore as that org is no longer relevant to the u k . Goodbye to the europeon anglers alliance and pathetic restrictions from the e u.

Angling is better than politics, ban politics from angling.

Consumer of bass. where is the evidence that the u k bass stock need angling trust protection. Why won't you work with your peers instead of castigating them. They have the answer.

Recipie's for mullet stew more than welcomed.

Angling sanitation trust and kent and sussex sea anglers org delete's and blocks rsa's alternative opinion on their face book site. Although they claim to rep all.

new for 2014. where is the evidence that the south coast bream stock need the angling trust? Your campaign has no evidence. Why won't you work with your peers, the inshore under tens? As opposed to alienating them? Angling trust failed big time re bait digging, even fish legal attempted to intervene and failed, all for what, nothing.

Looks like the sea angling reps have been coerced by the ifca's to compose sea angling strategy's that the ifca's at some stage will look at drafting into legislation to manage the rsa, because they like wasting tax payers money. That's without asking the rsa btw. You know who you are..

I don't see much evidence of "the anti-angling brigade".

All I see is the press and public doing what the press and public do when an organisation that supposedly represents anglers as a group makes a grotesquely ill-conceived and arrogant public statement.

The comments are not those of some lunatic fringe PeTA whacjobs, they are those of ordinary people outraged by the prospect of shooting a seal because it’s eating a few fish. These are the same people who will respond to any idiotic plan to cull otters and the very same people who got hunting with dogs banned – we cross them at our peril.

This idiotic statement from the AT is nothing short of a disaster for angling.

I used to be a member of the ACA and was considering joining the AT, but after this debacle, I’ll keep my money.

Eating wild caught fish is good for my health, reduces food miles and keeps me fit trying to catch them........it's my choice to do it, not yours to stop me!

Angling Trust has been forced to take action on this because the EA won't. A seal need marine fish to survive and it is an act of cruelty to leave it in freshwater, 60 miles from the sea and in conditions where it can no longer return the way it came because the flood levels are now down. Sign this petition to try to force some action from the Environment Agency.

It will die soon enough if it isn't returned to the sea, but then anglers will be blamed for poisoning it.

If the local economy is entirely dependent on a bunch of twisted fisherman then I think that it has bigger problems than a solitary seal. Lots of things may be good for the local economy but it doesn't mean that they are morally acceptable.

This would all be a bit laughable, but the shady Angling Trust seem to be in receipt of £1.8m of public money which no doubt helps them peddle this kind of nonsense. The fact that they are receiving taxpayers money at the same time conducting PR campaigns to shoot Seals, Cormorants, Goosanders and also want to the exclude or prosecute the rest of us because we may "disturb the fish" when we swim walk cycle or canoe along "their" rivers needs some serious questions asking of them an their friends in government.
