Woodys, for sure (wrong shape and wrong colour for Mandarins) I've seen plenty of both.

They are definately stylized. Perhaps a Red-brested Merganser. But the beak is all wrong for a merganser. I think I would go with a benighn woody.

 

Although I truly believe they are neotropic comorants in disguise. Or - gasp! the dreaded Giant Double-crested red-faced pelagic CORMORANT:D

We have only ducks and drakes over here.(I think)
