Drug smuggler receives a death sentence.

Recommended Posts

Frankly, I doubt that they will stretch her neck. It will have been a warning and she will be reprieved at the last minute. Not that I really care one way or another. Drugs is a piece of evil that still has to be beaten.

Growing old is mandatory, growing up is optional :-)

The fact is that whether you like it or not people all over the world want to use drugs.

Because in most countries this is illegal the supply of these drugs falls to well organised criminal gangs who stand to make millions.

The people at the top are never going to get caught so any type of sentence will never be a deterrent for them.

The people like this stupid woman are there to be caught, they are completely disposable as far as the drug gangs are concerned. You can kill as many as you want, it will not make an iota of difference. The criminals behind it will continue to make money hand over fist. I would bet that they were a lot more hacked off about losing the drugs than they would be about her, or any others, being executed.

There is only one way to stop these gangs trafficking drugs and that is to take away the profit motive and the only way to do that is some form of legalisation, as is done with alcohol and tobacco.

Let's agree to respect each others views, no matter how wrong yours may be.

I don't agree with capital punishment, and I don't agree with the prohibition of drugs - in both cases for both practical and principled reasons.

On the other hand, I think if you are dumb enough to smuggle drugs into a country which does have the death penalty for that, you've really nobody but yourself to blame.

Every year Brits die abroad. They get drunk and fall off balconies or go swimming where they shouldn't. They wander into dodgy areas in third world countries (or Florida) and get killed by criminals. They fall foul of wildlife, eaten by crocodiles or gored by elephants, kicked to death by zebra, stung to death by bees, savaged by polar bears, dismembered by sharks. They get electrocuted by fridges and killed in car crashes in dodgy taxis.

These are all tragic cases, often avoidable, often to a greater or lesser extent the result of the victim's poor judgement. If they execute this woman - which I hope they don't - I would say that she falls into the same camp, and has certainly taken a more obviously fatal risk that some of the others.

The death sentence may not be much of a deterrent, but I'd bet it improves the re-offending rates somewhat!

A foreign drug smuggler caught in the UK would be subject to the UK's laws. why should the reverse not be true? Don't like a country's laws then don't go there and subject yourself to them!

No sympathy whatsoever here.

If you can't do the time, don't do the crime.
