Which one do you think will get all of the attention in the UK comics?

Mary Who ? Another lesser-known politician with a hankering to see their name in print on the back of an emotive issue, perhaps.

The antibiotics issue, however, is a real frightener.

"The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and all science. He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead: his eyes are closed."

I do not believe anyone has actually said anything about the source, cut and quality of the hosremeat used in the contaminated burgers. Until some-one does, how can we have any confidence whatsoever that it was actually fit for animal consumption, let alone human consumption?

Sportsman,

I've been know to have a little aplastic anaemia after a good night on the town riding a bad horse.

OTOH, I don't believe the last 4 words of the second article either - "there just aren't any".

The antibiotics story is old news, our doctors have been reluctant to hand any out, except in extreme cases, for at least a year..

As for the horse meat story, I like the way they stress that it's hasn't got into the UK food chain, so that's alright then.

Anyone reluctant to eat Tesco/Aldi burgers because of the horse meat scandal, should try their meatballs, I've heard they're the dogs bol*ocks.

It's a lot older than that John. Back in the 70s I was briefly a sales rep for a pharmaceutical company selling antibiotics and we were very well aware of the problem then, It is just that those particular chickens are very rapidly coming home to roost.

As for the carcinogenic product "Phenylbutazone" this was marketed for human use until relatively recently as Butazolidin. My father had it for around 10 years for his arthritis and I was on it for back problems . Hundreds of thousands of prescriptions would have been issued with few side effects so to suggest that because traces of it might have been found in an abbatoir is hardly a major health risk. I think Rob the Rake has got it right.

Resistance to antibiotics is a lot older than that.

The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.
