Slow Google searches

Steve,

I find no particular objection to my own horrible misspelling (maybe mispelling?).

I've become pretty adept at leaving dictionary.com open in another window for words like aluminum.

Phone

I would hate for your British mispelling to start an argument.

aaaaaaaaaaand i have just dumped Chrome for IE atmo due to its new enforced privacy/censorship policy - am quite capable of policing my own web experience.

when searching i want ALL the web has to give - NOT what Google wants me to see !!!!!!!!

the worst thing with Google recently is its hidden update system that hell and all its spiky toothed minions cannot even remove or disable!!

just encountered it across our network here and its a real bitch! tries to install updates to local profiles; its a hidden service process and it checks for Google updates almost every hour without permission!!

nightmare!

yep! Google are turning into THE big brother of the internet!!

on a spell check note : IE 10 has spellchecking integrated so if you have windows 7 SR1 or better I would give IE 10 a try!

ive been using it since Windows 8 beta days and its been a surprisingly good browser!

and certainly in Windows 8 Pro its been very stable and very fast indeed!

Thanks for the IE10 info. Firefox hasn't been acting quite right of late so I'm updating IE and will give it a try for a while.

Any suggestions as to which of the ad blocking lists to use?

I have loaded the easylist standard. So far, I preferred Adblock on Firefox as it removed any signs of a placeholder and allowed right-click ad hoc blocking of advertising that slipped through the filter.

Ah well, like any other major PC change, getting used to a new main browser will take some time.
