Golden Moments

I just had to share this with you chaps.

Back in July my dog Morris and I attended a fundraiser for a dog welfare organisation (I write a column in a doggy magazine) and during the day a young blind lad was brought up to meet us. The lad's name was Aidan and his mum told me that he was Morris's greatest fan.

Aidan was so happy to meet Morris and to his credit, my normally disastrous mutt seemed to sense that Aidan might not handle the usual boistrous greeting Morris specialises in, and he remained spookily calm each time Aidan gave him a cuddle. It was a truly moving thing to witness.

I wrote of my feelings about this in a subsequent issue of the mag and Aidan's parents have just written to thank me. Inside their letter was one from Aidan himself, typed in braille and translated by Aidan's mum, thanking Morris and me for giving him a wonderful day at the show. Aidan also enclosed a photo of himself cuddling Morris, for me to keep.

Folks, I'm not ashamed to say that the odd tear sneaked out as I read Aidan's letter and I consider it one of the golden moments in my life. I'll never forget it.

So, after all that - what are your golden moments, then? We all have them, however small, huge or in-between. Let's hear about them, please.

Take It Easy,

Terry.

terry ive had a few, most of them involve my kids, but this one was a young boy id never met before.

i went in to my local bookshop, to buy a book on 3d studio max, there was a boy infront of me, when it was his turn to be served, he pulled out a bag full of penny`s and five pence peices, the girl behind the counter gave him a look, and proceded to count the money, this took some time as the book was £12.99, she finished counting and the boy was a pound short, he was almost in tears explaining hede been saving for the book for months, and couldnt understand how he was short, alas the girl behind the counter was having non of it, i looked at his face and couldnt help myself "il lend you the money mate" i said, at this the boy burst into tears and could hardly speak, i gave him the money, he paid for his book, and turned to me and said "thank you mister, i wish my dad was like you" i couldnt believe it, you could have knocked me down with a feather, by this time the girl behind the counter was in tears, as was i (secretly).

its funny how little things like this really hit you

just goes to show some kids really are great,

Only Elton knows this one, I have been helping a couple of young lads out over the years, scrounging unwanted tackle, teaching them to use there eyes when fishing, etc etc

One lad knows when it is my birthday and brings me a card with his latest photo's. This year was different, I put him on a spot where he caught his personnel best and beat his uncle who is his fishing partner. This year he gave me a clear plastic cut out of an angler with rod and a card. I later learned that he had purchased the model three months before when there was a craft market on. He could not come up to the flat so his mother came up for me and took me to the car, there he was in the front seat with his leg in plaster, he had broken his leg THAT afternoon but insisted on stopping off on the way back from the hospital to give me my present.

This gave me a lump in the throat but that was nothing to the lump that I got when I opened the card. To Alan, a most respected and respectfull angler, from one of many grateful lads....

I had a fly in my eye at the time and Sonja was in tears.

There are some nice youngsters out there.

Last week, signed my second computer cleaning contract and my first office cleaning contract against comeptition from 2 megga big cleaning firms and opposition from within the clients office.

Passing my Dutch driving licience and theory first time.

Passing my Dutch Health and Safety certicate first time.

Getting through the Offshore fire fighting course first time and I am claustrafobic.

I just wish I could learn to speak the language

Sorry to go on but it is nice to be able to tell some one on line as I don't say much normally.

BIBI

just to add another one, this ones not heart wrenching but it was funny, and happened earlier on today.

kris my eldest son(14) and i where mucking about,(i used to do a martial art called ninjitsu), and kris was keen to beat me up, so i obliged, we where both dancing around and kicked at the same time, unfortunatly both our shins clashed and we both collapsed in a pile of pain and laughter, he recovered imidiatly, and said whilst i was still crying in agony "well dad, i guess thats what you call a shin dig"

i suppose you had to be there but it was funny biggrin.gif
