Dog walkers

Been out on my bike today on path/cycle paths and the amount of dogs you have to swerve around or they try to chase you, why can people not put them on a lead? This is in a housing estate, so no where for a dog to run.

When they chase you all you get from the owner is "it won't hurt you"

Time we had a law to keep dogs on a lead in such places.

Time we had a law to keep dogs on a lead in such places.

In many places, there is. Unfortunately some dog owners don't think it applies to them. I have an expanding lead for when I take mine into the park, it gives him room to run in but he's always under control. The number of dogs I see running loose is unbelievable at times, even though there are signs saying that dogs must be kept on a lead.

Caught one bloke letting his mutt crap just outside our house, needless to say he got it. Took a picture to send to the council offices.

On a lead can be every bit as bad. You would scarcely believe the number of times that I've had to slam the breaks on the bike because some idiot has his rat on one of those extendable lead things that are almost invisible and it is stretched across the path while the dozy owner chats to a mate with his back to the dog.

One of these days, I'll not see one and the prize pooch will accelerate from 0 to 40 in a fraction of a second and I, the owner and the dog will all end up in a mangled mess on the ground.

As for the delightful little dog eggs that they leave around, Oh for a bit of heavy handed enforcement - with 1000 pound fines....

I've only once had the experience of flicking it up with my front wheel and ending up all over my face (a rapid cycle to the nearest stream for a wash) but I know someone who swallowed some, doing the same thing. Neither of us is keep on a repeat !!

Locally, most of the the scumbag owners don't even bother picking it up on the path that leads to the kiddies playground and most of those that do seem to chuck the bag in the hedge on their way out of the park so the trees are festooned with little baggies.

Bring back the dog licence I say - at 200 pounds per year.

Dogs on leads and bells on bikes.

Being a Dog walker, responsible for the actions of my Mutt, there are things called bends that restrict viewing. Also, If it is windy or if you're chatting it's hard to hear a cyclist as they can be extremely quiet and many are fast.

Maybe if Cyclists invested in a little bell and used it as they rode, especially if there is a restriction to visibility, sensible owners would reign in their charges.

Dogs on leads :clap2:

Bells on bikes :clap3:

As to Dog excremant that is left by bad owners, do what I did, collect it up in a bag and smear if over the dog owners car. They eventually get the message.

@ Ken...a good old fashioned mudguard will stop fecal splashback and maybe we should introduce a cycle license with the requirement for insurance...

When beach fishin, I often have baited snoods hanging from my rod-rest ready to be attached next time I reel in.

One day a dog is going to get to the snood before I do :(

And often a dog will tear through my line as I'm tying a hook etc, putting both me and the dog in danger of being hooked.

Remonstrating with the owners is like trying to converse with the brain-dead.

It seems dogs have every right to dive into my bags, steal my lunch/bait etc.

When they get hit with a vet's bill for a gut-hooked dog, or have to put up with the crap that comes out of the dog after it's eaten my often de-frosted and re-frozen fish baits, I doubt they will be seeing the funny side of it.

Much the same when I'm pike-fishing on the river.

Bike licence ? bring it on.

Bells ? I gave up on using it years ago. It only makes people (those that arn't wearing headphones) jump around in an unpredictable manor which is a damn site more dangerous than suprising them.

Yep, most dangerous device ever invented!

One person aware, the other unaware is good.

One person aware, the other becoming aware, and both moving unpredictably in an attempt to avoid a collision usually means a collision becomes inevitable!

I once collected it, must to my disgust and gut reaching, placed in a bag and chucked it over the owners wall, landed with a very pleasing SPLAT
