Hi everyone. Have you ever had that "Funny feeling" that you are going to catch at any minute, and then you do catch! Its happened to me a few times now. I can also sense when i am wasting my time and there is nothing in the swim...Does this happen you you aswell? Spooky!

I think all good anglers have a sixth sense. Its not optimism, its that primeaval sense of the hunter.

I remember watching a boat load of anglers, including a young girl, fishing near where I keep my boat. The little girl kept fidgetting, you could see that she was uneasy and aware of something, without her knowing what it was. Eventually they moved off, I cast my lure right to where they had been moored. I was rewarded with a good pike! That little girl was too young to have had that sixth sense educated out of her, she knew something, but not what, was there.

Whilst I can't really claim to have ever experienced that 'sixth sense' you describe (perhaps men can't?), what I have noticed is that a large number of my better catches have happened with that 'last cast of the day'. So frequently, I reach the point where I know I should be packing away, and I put a rod away, pull up the rod-rests, take in the keepnet, and so on. I have to just try one last cast... and suddenly I'm into a fish bigger than any I've caught that day. Does this 'last cast phoenomenon' happen to others too?

You meet all kinds of animal on the riverbank.

sixth sense?"i see fish" "big fish" lol

ive only had that feeling a few times but i think its more to do with the way we fish,i seem to know when im fishing well, and when im fishing like a noddy, plus all the knowledge gained through the years.A experienced angler can come across swims that scream fish and he will catch there, but the novice's may not as he is lesser experienced infact he may even pass th eswim bye not giving it any thought.

I do get that sixth sense feeling from time to time, but mostly I seem to know what the mrs is going to catch, which most times is far more than me :)

This is something I've had on several occasions, but unfortunately not frequently enough! Dick Walker thought it was man's ancient hunting sense coming to the fore.

For example, almost 25 years ago my fishing partner was Nigel Witham, one of the best "natural" anglers I know. We were fishing a large but shallow farm reservoir for perch on a sunny, cold day in December. Because of the bright light, neither of us expected to catch anything before dusk.

However, at about midday I got this overwhelming feeling that I was about to catch a big perch. I don't know why - maybe there was a subtle change in the conditions or something. I said so to Nigel, who promptly scoffed and pointed to the sky.

Within seconds though he had to eat his words as a bobbin flew up!

The trouble was, it wasn't to my rod but his - we were sharing a swim and our baits were just a few feet apart!

It turned out to be a superb secimen stripey of 3-04, our first 3lber. Nigel always was a jammy basket!
