Very little if the full restore that was performed didn't include your Microsoft works software.

First check its actually gone completely and not just missing its shortcut.

Check here:

C:\program files\microsoft works

Check in there for the software

If its there just create a shortcut back on your desktop.

If not your going to have to reinstall from the Works cd, or use a free alternative like Open Office or google docs.

Sadly without knowing what "restore" was performed exactly its impossible to speculate on recovery further...as the PC wasn't working I presume a full factory reset was done...wiping software you've installed after you bought the unit.

If you can get more detailed info on the restore then I can figure out a bit more ?

If you can't get works or word right now you can download and install Open Office. Its freeware software that can open all the Microsoft office documents so you have a word processor for now, does excel too.

It's helped me out quite a few times with reformats.

Judy

Have you had your machine since it was new? Did you get any CDs with it?

The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.

Judy - MS Works is more than a little long in tooth.

Download the (free) Open Office from http://www.openoffice.org/ and give it a try. The only issue I really have with it is trying to play powerpoint presentations (.pps files) and Microsoft has a free powerpoint player available at http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=13

It will be a huge learning curve, it's far too different from windows to be able to jump right in. Saying that though it is a nice operating system if you can get on with it.

i would try and get a play around with it before you consider buying one.
