all though i am am a Intrepid person i also love Ambidex`s ,there is a little bit of info on the ambidex site (youngs now masterline) so i emailed them to see if the had anymore info on the ambidex (mostly later versions)

the reply sent was as follows:

 

Dear Dave

Many thanks for your message that was awaiting my return from a trip to

the Orient.

 

In taking over J W Young this company has primary interest in the

ongoing production of centrepin and fly reels. Sadly we have no

information on fixed spool reels.

now this reply is fair enough ,but did he actually look????

surely a line such as :

"we have searched through our archives but have found no further information except as posted on the website"

as you can see the answer is the same ,but it implies they took note of my e`mail!

do you find that many of your e`mails never even get a reply?

at least Masterline did i suppose.

The key is probably the fact that he just got back from a trip. If it's anything like my work mailbox after a trip it'll be stuffed to capacity. If you'd reached him at a quiet time he'd probably have personalised it a bit more. It could also be he's been asked the same question before and knew the answer!

 

Having said that, I can't believe that a company with the heritage of J W Young would not have retained a lot of historical information. Now it's possible that none of this was handed over to Masterline, but it would have to be somewhere!!

i think they just got peed of with my e`mails (i have sent 4)

i sent one to shakespear regarding intrepid (they own the name) and received the same answer

i think they are only interested in the trademark everything else is skipped.
