Aims and targets for 2013

Well, yes. I'm saying the canal and my local ressie because I just don't have the cash at the moment for extravagant trips anywhere, so I'm going to try and fish some easy access waters fairly regularly and maybe pick out the better fish if I can maintain a regular fishing/feeding pattern along with Andy_1984.

It's hard to make definite plans now, for the last couple of seasons the weather has been a real problem in sticking to projects. I still have my new difficult bit of river to get to grips with, so if the conditions are right in the winter I'll be back at that, trying for big chub. That's still the main thing niggling me, I really hope I get a decent shot at it soon, I've waited 2 years so far!

Other things include picking the river perch fishing in the autumn, carrying on from where we left off, fishing for those big fish with paternostered lives. Hopefully we can hit the ground running this year.

The big river roach are still very much on the agenda too. Again, I'm just waiting for the right conditions, but I'm pretty sure now a 2lber is a realistic target. That would be amazing!

I'm looking forward to doing more jigging for zander in late autumn at the reservoirs. I won't be fishing for monsters, but for the fun of it, it's probably the most enjoyable fishing I do now, I love it. Also lure fishing for perch on the rivers and gravel pits in the summer and autumn.

I did a but of carp fishing last summer, stalking around gravel pits with floaters in the evenings after work. That was good fun, I'll probably do a bit more of that.

I'll be doing some gravel pit tench fishing in the spring, it would be nice If one of the bigger fish showed up, but we'll see. I'll be fishing differently this year, so that may be more or less productive than previous years.

And in the early spring I'll be dusting off the fly gear and doing some reservoir and small stream trout fishing. Can't wait for that.

Lots to look forward to - most of it dependant on what the weather does!

I often have targets/plans each year but last year was a bit of a none starter for me for a number of reasons and I never came close to any of my targets. So this year I will not be aiming for any PB targets but have a ruff idea of what I will be fishing for and where. The plan is to put a lot of time in to fishing just a few venues and for just a few species.

Spring will be Tench fishing and I have 2 venues in mind for that.

Come the summer I will do a few trips for Cats and as my partner has decided she wants to catch a Sturgeon then these 2 things can hopefully be combined.

Autumn/Winter will be Zander fishing.

The only thing I have a number in mind for is Roach, been a very long time since I have had a big one. As the Cat fishing will take me to commercial waters then I hope to spend some time trying for a commercial 2 lb. I will try the same on my Tench and Zander venues but realistically I think commercials offer a better chance of a big Roach.

Stephen

There's two species I've never caught, Zander and Sturgeon, I seen two Sturgeon caught at a commercial by my mates and they still give me grief that I didn't get one! A 2lb roach still eludes me, I've had a 1lb 12oz from a local ressie and a 1lb 10oz from the river Isle but I feel they're getting rarer and rarer in our rivers now
