It's most certainly dead, Josh.

 

It clearly looks as if it's been partially digested. I'm pretty sure Mick would have said if he thought he foul hooked the eel I imagine it fights a heck of a lot differently than a pike. Plus on another forum he said the smell was unbearable. so yeah, Dead.

Yes you are correct have read somewhere else on the story.

Just a thought as the eel has a treble in its back.

And TBH it does look a bit old now looking at the photo.

But how can you tell its been partially digested on that photo? out of interest.

I wonder how long it takes for a Pike to digest an eel. I only ask as a few years back I caught a Pike by accident while eel fishing and it felt like it had a big eel or eels in its belly. It felt very odd and so I am curious as to how long it could remain in it's stomach before if would break down and you would never know it had eaten an eel.

think it would have been protesting a bit more than that if it was alive, and would likely have freed it's self when it came ashore. Probably dead when the pike picked it up as someone mentioned above.

I bet that's St Johns lake at Oxford. That's were him and hayes share a love nest on. I used to love the way that on their fishing vids many were cut and edited to look as if it was on a different location. ...LOL
