Welcome to Anglers' Net. I'd help if I could but didn't want you to think you were being ignored.

Hi bigbub

I would recommend contacting Bewl as many reservours have restrictions on the method you can use for Pike or Zander. I was talking to some one before Christmas and am sure Bewl was one of the waters he was planning to fish. I think he said it was fly only or it might have been lure only or seas baits only. I can't exactly remember as he had about 6 weekends maped out and all the waters had different rules as to how you could fish.

My gut feeling is that Bewl might be fly only or at least have some sort of restrictions, so maybe give them call.

Looks like it might be fly only, hopefully some fly anglers might be able to give advice on tactics. But still worth a call to clarify and they might be able to let you know which flies are working well at the moment.

Sad to say the Pike fishing there is no longer (IMO) viable (well not for the price at least) for several decades Bewl was (and indeed did) capable of producing BIG pike (in excess of the current British record). However the regular culling and (probably more significant) water management policy that now exists has put paid to this. A great shame.

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

When I used to help run the Pike fishing there it was for the first three weekends in November.Fishing was by boat only and you were restricted to lures over 5" and sea deadbaits. The deads were a complete waste of time but the lure fishing could be very good. I've not had any dealings with Bewl Water since Rob Dixon left there a few years back so dont know the exact score on the arrangements but what I can tell you was after many years of being paid peanuts and treated like a mug by most of the toffee nosed rangers there Rob finally left due to the dramatic decline in the Pike fishing there.Tells a story I think.

You can still buy season and day tickets for the Piking there but once again you need to be realistic. The heady days of the late 80's when it first switched from being a trout reservoir are long gone.A lot of people have visited these one time great Pike waters expecting them to be the same as when they made their names.Sadly pike fishing just dont work like that! Be it for lumps or simply just "good" piking people need to fish new waters or at least far more sustainable ones than hammered out trout ressies! Still a nice place to spend a day afloat though just dont get carried away by the stories us old timers can tell! Most (in fact all) of the one time great pike vennues are still fishable just that you dont hear so much about them any more because they simply no longer produce like they used to also sadly (for those wanting a bit of nostalgia or to experience the scenes of some pike fishing history) many still charge the same high prices as they did when justified!

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!
