Hi,

I have a picture from Holland, I think it was near to Terschillen (sp) the island

Its a bronse statue of a woman thats pointing with her arm.

I haven't got it to hand at the mo', but will put it on the web soon.

Any of you buitenlandse have any idea who she is?

It was kinda weird, coz she was in the middle of no-where, if memory serves right

Tot Ziens

Liam

ps That's all the Dutch I know!

Ain't that the truth smile.gif ... I worked in Rotterdam for a while.

Then there's Jenever too ... and good beer.

There is however nothing weirder than a country that has a public transport system that actually works and has a countrywide standard ticketing system.

It took me weeks to get to terms with the idea that trams/trains/buses etc. turn up on time too.

Dag,

Ian.

I spent 9 months commuting from the Medway Towns to Leiden each week (working for CMG).

and good beer.

er, that was Belgian, brewed by monks!

I parked my bicycle at Leiden Station, when I took the train to Amsterdam one weekend.

It took me hours to find the bloody thing when I got back, hidden amongst the thousands and thousands of others!

Incidentally, my (UK) cycling club took part in an organised ride from London to Amsterdam, with hundreds of others.

The motorway was closed to allow them through.

When someone queried this with the dutch police, pointing out that Holland has an excellent cycle path network, the officer replied, 'We can't let you all cycle on the cyclepath, too many people would be late for work!'

Tight lines - leon

Translation of Sonja's reply:

Good afternoon Liam,

I've never been to Terschilling but I'll try and find out the name of the picture and send it to you.

Greetings from the land of cheap cheese, fish, petrol and legal dope.

Best Sonja

I ought to add that Peggy taught in Antwerp, in Dutch speaking Belgium, for 18 months.

At an exhibition in Holland a couple of Dutch lads were admiring Orbiter rods but were talking to each other in Dutch (probably they didn't want to appear too keen and hoped to get a discount). They almost fell over when Peggy spoke to them in Dutch!
