It seems we need more tackle

In fact it seems we need a different rod and reel for practically every style of fishing and every species we fish for.

I can appreciate some species need a more specialist rod, but mostly I fish with a minimum of kit. I have a match rod for canals and my 501. I have a carbon match for slightly heavier work and one carp rod with bait runner. So mostly I am fishing with one rod all the time.

This probably sounds silly, but cost and weight now have to be kept to a minimum.

Any body else feel the same?

Sort of...I've got dozens of rods and reels but, when river fishing I generally use one of three or four depending on conditions and terminal tackle!

I usually fish very light, an Aldi bag with tackle, a net, a rod and possibly a second rod...

Eating wild caught fish is good for my health, reduces food miles and keeps me fit trying to catch them........it's my choice to do it, not yours to stop me!

For any fishing you like I aim to fish light.

I wish to preserve the back muscles by not lugging a trolley about, especially a challenge when you come to a stile.

Mr Crabtree was very rarely seen poking his nose out of a bivvy. In the days when I frequented a few carp lakes I observed that the first thing that the carp angler did in setting up was to set up the bed and have a snooze. Well, they certainly needed it, and a medal for the effort for carting all that junk to the swim. At an adjacent lake there was an elderley couple where the angler's wife dutifully came to keep the angler safe and spent most of her time in the open air reading and knitting. Now there is a market opportunity for Fox, Nash etc to exploit.

I would support the individuals right to buy as much claptrap as possible but equally I would support the right of the rest of the population to enjoy watching them get to their swim.

So schhhhh dont let on...just dream about the day when we hear the click of knitting needles instead of the scream of line bites on audible alarms.

In a way, we do. Since I gave up the car, lugging tackle for two has become a bind and now I am slimming down, with a view to multi tasking the tackle....

Session anglers are at times can be tarred with the carp angler crew which is not always the case. Many forget that many use Avon type rods and are not really fussed if they catch at all. I and many like the session fishing to get away from modern life and be at one with mother nature for a few days but you still need the amenities as in luggage etc. I remember lugging a load of gear about and bumping into a guy who said to me what’s your PB Carp? I said I am setting up for Barbel in which you could see he looked quite surprised at. A session on the Avon is a wonderful place to be.

All,

Maybe my comment should be a different thread. I have "kit" for catching fish and I have "kit" for showing off. When showing off I carry a lot more crap than when I am fishing.

I've got exactly

1 x Quiver rod

1 x 3lb tc pike rod

1 x 50g spinning rod

1 x Coarse float rod

1 x Fly rod

I see no reason to have any more just now. With what I have I can cover a great range of species and methods, apart from the spinning rod, its great and can handle big pike but my lures seem to be getting bigger and can't quite get the action out of them.

So my next rod might just be a beefier lure rod.

If I'm going fishing for roach or tench with the quiver I sometimes take the float rod too and if pike fishing with the 3lb Tc rod ill take the spinning rod too.

More often than not though the spare rod I take to usually never get used cause I'm a lazy git :uhuh:

Don't let er indoors see this thread, it will destroy all my arguments for going down the tackle shop :nono: . I have more than enough for my needs, apart from replacements, but only take enough for a session, plus a spare in case of breakages, or a heavier/lighter set in case the target fish change. Plus a trolly to carry it all as I am getting too old to keep it over my shoulder. I still have far too much bait in my cupboard, but it never seems to go down

I still have sacks of hemp in the shed. A damn mouse got in there in the winter and must have invited his mates by the amount that was taken. Not rats though thank god i think they are fearful of my Birds of prey where a mouse they can't be arsed with ...LOL

I take what I think may be needed for a session.

A session may be one hour to a few days.
