I reckon a certain Steve Burke will like this guy's approach:

Steve wrote about this subject when Anglers' Net first launched:

Yeah, Andy is obviously a very committed angler who knows what he is doing and deserves his fish, but I'm not in a rush to want to go and buy all those bottles. A bit too much like carp fishing. If someone on AN was getting consistent success using one of them I'd be more interested.

Do know, I hadn't noticed ! I suppose I ignore manufacturers' names in articles from long habit.

But you are right, I went back and read it again, and yes, a lot of name-dropping.

...but now I'm posting, without the piece in front of me, and I still can't remember who supplied the gear. :)

A cracker! Many congratulations indeed, Andy! I was particularly impressed that you checked for snags first.

I was also put off by the product placement but wonder if Andy is sponsored by all these firms. Could it just be that he thinks that this is the way to write as this is the style that sponsored anglers use? If so, it's sad that angling articles have come to this.

I think the name dropping is just done in the style of todays angling journalism (possibly with the hope of picking up a sponser).

Well done to the guy.

The thing I picked up on is he has changed hats in the photographs?

Also I suffer from severe green/brown/red colourblindness.

The bottom picture to me seems more natural in terms of light - a smaller apature setting perhaps? I prefer the second picture.

I am no expert with photography but know you should take several of the same picture with different camera settings. Not to hard a thing to do with todays digital slrs and memory cards. You can then select the best ones when you get home.

Very nice perch :) I also think the name dropping is just emulating the style of modern articles, possibly in the hope of being picked up by a sponser. I personally don't like it, it detracts rather than adds to the integrity of the price. Also, there's never a need for more than one exclamation mark at a time (another per hate of mine!!!). But that said, it's easy to be a critic, he's had a great winter's perching topped of by a real lump.

TFT asked about the use of flavours with AN members - over the winter I had 25 2lb+ and 8 3lb+ commercial perch on unflavoured baits, prawn mostly. It might make a difference, it certainly seems to not put them off, but I doubt it's the main reason for success.

And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music
