Win7 probs

My pc is sick it cannot backup as volume shadow stops at 7% and i cannot make a restore point ,it cannot even find a external disk to put a restore onto while its seen in windows itself!

I have tried system file checker in admin mode it reports no problem

I would like to do an inplace reinstall but i get the report the software installed is newer than the disk and it goes no further.

If i can uninstall service pak1 will it then go ahead and install over itself

I dont want to do a clean install that takes 2 full days to update windows and install and update all the software on it ,any ideas

Even the service pak1 iso would take an age at <1.2 mbs

Theres def something going on as even explorer stops briefly on occasion but no viri or naughties found anywhere using several naughty thing finders

If things are that bad an in place reinstall won't touch it anyway!

If it is something nasty it sounds like root kit material and an in place install won't touch that because it will be resident in windows security area itself.

Take a screenie of your startup files, and the Internet BHO files from within ccleaner and post it here for us to have a butchers at....

You will have to translate the last bit into stupid person for me and i will post it tomorrow cheers

open CCleaner

choose

TOOLS>STARTUP

this will bring up a window with four tags along the top:

windows>internet explorer>scheduled tasks and context menu

 

post a screenie of each one of the lists under those tabs.

it will tell me what you have running and wat might be something a bit more nasty if there is anything

Whoops should have kept my mouth shut it wouldnt go into windows and now is running startup repair ,looks bad

Lucky i have this little tablet so i can still get up peoples noses on the other threads! Shhhhs why did i say thaaaaaa

 

 

 

well clean install ,i formatted c:/ but strangely with windows a 4.5 gig settings transfer,nortons ,firefox and mail and less than a 100mb of progs ontop of that it seems i have used 56gig of my drive!

 

but if you highlight all the folders ob c:/ and click properties it shows its 24gig
