1.5 to 1.75 TC Tench rod

Kappa

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Just in case anything has changed in the last year or so. Anyone got any recommendations, or better yet any for sale?

Ideally I'm looking for a 1.5lb TC old Daiwa Prospecialist "stalker" rod but if anyone has anything similar let me know!

The main thing I need is is decent sized rings on the rod, more like a baby carp rod than a barbel rod!

Rich, these are lovely rods as long as you don't want to put a lead in the next county, they're a bit soft for that. I really wish I'd bought the pair in my local tackle shop that had been gathering dust for years, but they were reduced when the piggy bank was empty. .http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DRENNAN-LIGHT-CARP-12FT-1-75LB-TC-ARMALITE-ROD-/111054908088?pt=UK_SportingGoods_Fishing_FishingRods_EH&hash=item19db636ab8

Have a look at the Wychwood Rogue and Maximiser Barbel Rods - larger and fewer rings than your average Barbel rod.

Alternatively have a look at the Korum range.

Shimano Brench or what about the Drennans Andrew has?

You might pick up a set of North Western Lake Specials if you save a search on Ebay.

By a Harrison blank and build one.

You can put whatever rings on it that you like.

Really? I wasn't aware.

I'm half tempted to have a go myself, just for the blank.

For 1.75lb tc I think the Drennan tench & bream rods are still the ones to get (sorry!).

For 1.5lb tc I can't recommend enough the old Fox barbel special rods. They go for very reasonable prices on ebay for good second hand ones, good sized eyes, and are still the best playing rods I've ever owned (that's what I had my accidental big carp on a couple of years back). They're not great in a big wind though, or if you want to punch a lead hard. I blew up mine at Wingham early on and had to replace the top section  But if you want something for medium range (and that can be used for chub, perch...even barbel apparently!) they are superb.

And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music
