Could any of you experts on here tell me how much a 20W halogen bulb will drain a 12v 17Ah battery in 12 hours?

poledark,

I don't know. (1hr 10min on 20W(?)).

Copied from the "net". """"AH stands for Ampere hours.

Eg: A 12 volt 5 AH battery can deliver 12v at 5 amps for 1 hour. Or 12v at 0.5 amps for 2 hours and so on.

Remember. Voltage is supplied by the battery but current/ amps are drawn by the appliance. Power in watts is calculated as volts x amps. So for instance a 12 volt bulb drawing 2 amps is: 12x2=24 so it is a 24 watt bulb. so on a 12v 5ah battery it will burn for about 10 mins. This is why car batteries are quite big for only a 12 volt battery, the massive current drawn by just turning the engine would flatten a small battery, and probably still wouldn't start even then.""""

Hope this helps.

Cheers Phone :) I am still none the wiser though :)

I have connected the bulb to the battery and will see how long it lasts :) and will report back....................

The battery is a 17Ah Deep cycle golf trolley battery and it will drive my tackle barrow for a couple of miles fully loaded (13 stone) The motor is rated 150watts.

I was hoping to run a spotlight (12v halogen bulb) for a few hours. Can't seem to get a simple answer from Google.

40watts 12v is 3.3 amps so the battery will bead dead long before 12 hours if you want the battery to last long as in they dont like being fully discharged all the time ,what about an LED version Den?

I am quite taken with cree LED's but extremely bright, you would have to run them at far less than 12v though

I bought a little cree torch that runs on 3 AAA's and i have been using it for 50minutes several times (probably 6/7)and carried a spare set of batteries thinking it would quickly run down as the beam is so bright ,still going fine!

You can get nice headlamp versions as well

I bought it as it has a focus function the light is wide or a pinpoint compared to my 10led torch its 10 times better

Thanks Dave, I am using what I have got :) which is a spare bulb for the kitchen downlights. I mistakenly thought that "it is only 20watts so should last for many hours"..but seems I am mistaken.

Was hoping to take trolley to beach and then use halogen to light rod tops and then use trolley on return journey, but was a bit concerned the battery might go flat on me, and I end up pushing it :)

Heigh ho, onwards and upwards, I may investigate led's.

I have a cree headlamp which last well, starts to fade a bit after 6 hours but can live with that. Also bought a Coleman lantern...supposed to run for 85 hours on full, or 115hours on low............barely last 6hours............load of rubbish. Tried new Duracells and new rechargeable Duracells 2300mha......same result.

Colemans always tell porkies ,i won a battery one (for some strange reason designed to look like a petrol one) lasts half the time suggested on the box ,like most stats its probably in lab conditions not in realife how it will be used once sold

I have the prettiest ever coleman in the shed somewhere ,i was going to flog it on ebay (i prefer my aidas and petromax lamps) although it look brand new it has a pinhole in the tank not got a clue how to fix it other than a new tank ,su h a pity.

Colemans sell well the stoves are good anyway

Solder? Looks like you won the same lamp :) I spent quite a long time researching lamps before buying the Coleman CPx 6. Every ad I looked at stated the same,,i.e. 115 lumens..85hrs runtime on high...115hours on low.....uses 4X d cells or their rechargeable pack.

I think I will contact Amazon and see if I can return it (had it a couple of months now)

Steel tank for some reason ,they cheat internal rust by coating the inside with something or other paint or ceramic no idea

My win is a 4345 ,its purely rechargeable nothing else ,we dont use it as its crap but we leave it in the larder plugged in so it comes on in a power cut so we can get the aladdin lamps for real light ,for really real light and to show off to the neighbours i break out the pressure lamps!

Its so dire its not on the coleman site

Chesters1 definalely does not recommend it

Found it on the EU site it probably was laughed out of the USA so the flogged it here ,never realised it was cree it must be a very early version!

No good for the beach but very bright for non pressurised lamps you cant beat these and they just sip paraffin

Looks like the mrs missed the top of the cooker ,at 4ft and a fag paper shes to short to see it
